What triggers the Travel Rule: you are in a regulated region + you are depositing or withdrawing crypto
Travel Rule only affects certain users in certain scenarios, not every transaction. Two conditions must be met at the same time:
You are in a regulated region: OKX has explained that "we are rolling out the Travel Rule gradually, mainly affecting users in regulated regions." Whether your region is "regulated" depends on OKX compliance requirements based on local laws, and you cannot pre-check this list.
You are making a crypto deposit or withdrawal: Travel Rule only affects crypto asset deposits and withdrawals. It does not affect normal spot or futures trading on the platform.
How to know if you are affected—not by "checking", but by "encountering"
You have two ways to tell whether you are affected by the Travel Rule:
Method 1: Watch the system prompt when withdrawing or depositing
Withdrawal: After you start a withdrawal, if the Travel Rule is triggered, the system will show a form asking you to fill in recipient information—including the recipient's legal name and address type (private wallet or exchange).
Deposit: If you receive a deposit but the sender did not provide the compliance information required by the Travel Rule, the deposit will be placed in a "locked" state and will not be credited automatically.
Method 2: If a deposit is locked, the system will clearly tell you
If your deposit is locked, the [Deposit History] in the OKX App will show the reason, and usually it will tell you that you need to "supplement Travel Rule information". You need to contact the sender to get their legal name, confirm whether the other party sent from an exchange or a private wallet, and provide this information before it can be unlocked.
What to fill in for different scenarios
Withdrawal to another exchange: Provide the recipient's legal name and select "crypto exchange account". If the other platform is not on the list, the withdrawal may be rejected.
Withdrawal to your own private wallet: Provide your name, select "private wallet", and verify wallet ownership through a cryptographic signature (the system will ask you to connect your wallet to sign).
Deposit from an exchange to OKX: You need to first tell the sender your legal name so they can include the compliance information when sending. If the information is incomplete or the name does not match, the deposit may be locked and will need to be rechecked.

How to verify after completing the operation
After starting a withdrawal, check the status in [Withdrawal History]. If it shows "Completed" and there is no extra pop-up, this transaction did not trigger additional Travel Rule verification requirements. If a deposit is locked, [Deposit History] will show a "locked" status and the required supplementary information. Follow the system prompts to add the information, and wait for the asset to be credited before taking the next step.
