Why Does a Risk Assessment Appear After OKX Account Registration?

The risk assessment that pops up after registration is not a system glitch or an extra review targeting you personally. It is a pre‑screening mechanism that helps OKX meet compliance requirements and protect you – confirming whether you have the appropriate knowledge and risk tolerance before you access high‑risk products.

When the Risk Assessment Is Triggered

After completing basic registration (setting a password, linking an email/phone), the system does not actively push the assessment. It only appears when you try to use specific features:

Scenario A: Enabling futures trading

  1. Action: Tap Trade at the bottom of the app and select Futures.

  2. Trigger: The first time you enter the futures page, a risk assessment prompt is forced, and you must complete it before proceeding.

  3. Completion indicator: An assessment questionnaire appears instead of taking you directly to the futures trading interface.

Scenario B: Accessing high‑leverage settings or new products

  1. Action: When you try to adjust leverage, use coin‑margined contracts for the first time, or visit new products like prediction markets (Outcomes), the system may again require a supplementary assessment or specific agreement.

  2. Trigger: A prompt says "Please complete the risk assessment" or "Additional risk evaluation required".

  3. Completion indicator: All required questionnaires are fully submitted.

Content and Results of the Assessment

  • Assessment structure: Usually 10–15 multiple‑choice questions covering years of investment experience, acceptable loss percentage, trading frequency, etc. To enable futures, a knowledge test about margin, liquidation, and other concepts is also required – generally you must answer 8 out of 10 correctly.

  • Result classification: Based on your answers, the system classifies you into one of four levels: Conservative, Moderate, Aggressive, or Speculative.

  • Impact:

    • If your result is Aggressive or Speculative, you can usually use all available futures products right away.

    • If your result is lower, access to certain features may be restricted, or additional conditions (such as holding a minimum amount of assets) may apply.

Common Failure Reasons and How to Handle Them

  • Assessment not passed: The most common situation is answering more than two questions incorrectly on the knowledge test. You can simply retake it; the questions are fixed and attempts are unlimited.

  • Unsatisfactory result: If your risk level does not meet the requirement, you can adjust your answers and retake the assessment. However, please note that providing false information carries risks.

Risk Reminders

  • Compliance first: The assessment is a mandatory step imposed by OKX to meet global regulatory requirements (such as the EU MiCA licence). Without completing it, you cannot use the relevant features.

  • Answer truthfully: Although it is advisable to answer honestly so that the result matches your real risk tolerance, please understand: with high‑risk products like futures, losses can exceed your principal. If you submit false information and over‑trade as a result, your account funds are directly at risk.

  • Regional restrictions: Due to regulations, users in certain regions may be unable to use specific features even after passing the assessment (e.g., prediction markets are unavailable to users in Singapore and the EEA).

Confirmation of Completion

You have successfully completed the assessment when the page shows "Assessment completed" or "Passed" and the previously locked trading button becomes clickable. After passing the knowledge test, you can enter the futures page. If you have performed all the steps but your account still appears abnormal, we recommend contacting online customer support.
