Publishing DKG Knowledge Assets with OKX Funds: Cost and Source Verification

The phrase "publishing DKG knowledge assets with OKX funds" needs to be broken down first: OKX is not a publishing portal for DKG, and TRAC is not a spot trading pair on OKX. What you can do through OKX is buy TRAC and transfer it to your own wallet, then use that wallet to publish knowledge assets on OriginTrail's DKG network. The publishing itself happens in OriginTrail's DKG nodes or CLI tools, not inside OKX's interface.

First, confirm whether TRAC can be bought on OKX

This is the premise for the entire path. OKX's centralized spot exchange currently does not list TRAC. TRAC's availability on OKX is limited to the DEX trading feature of OKX Wallet.

This means you cannot directly buy TRAC on the OKX spot market. A feasible approach is: hold ETH or USDC in your OKX account, transfer it to your OKX Web3 wallet, and then swap ETH or USDC for TRAC through the OKX DEX aggregator. This path incurs on-chain gas fees and swap slippage, and TRAC ends up in your OKX Web3 wallet address, not your OKX centralized account.

If you already hold TRAC (purchased from another exchange), you need to withdraw it to an ERC-20 compatible wallet first. TRAC's contract address is 0xaa7a9ca87d3694b5755f213b5d04094b8d0f0a6f, running on the Ethereum mainnet.

How much TRAC does publishing a knowledge asset actually cost?

This is the core of the "cost" part. DKG publishing costs do not have a fixed "price tag". They are determined by three variables together: the size of the data you publish, the Paranet (subnetwork) you choose, and the service period you set.

According to OriginTrail's publishing cost formula, the service cost of a publication is roughly equal to: bid price × asset size (KB) × number of epochs × number of winning nodes (fixed at 3).

The "bid price" is not a globally unified value but is determined by the stake-weighted average of nodes in the Paranet you are in. A Paranet with more competition will have a lower average bid; a less popular Paranet with fewer nodes may have a higher bid.

This means you cannot get a definite answer of "how much TRAC is charged per KB" before publishing. The actual cost can only be confirmed after you select a Paranet and prepare to submit the publication, when the network calculates the current bid. A reference example: if a Paranet's bid is 0.02 TRAC/KB, and you publish 10KB of data for 2 epochs, the cost would be approximately 0.02 × 10 × 2 × 3 = 1.2 TRAC. But your actual data size and Paranet bid may be completely different.

The specific path to publish with OKX funds

Assuming you already hold TRAC in your OKX Web3 wallet and have prepared the data to publish (in RDF format), the complete chain is:

Step 1: Obtain a DKG node or CLI environment. Publishing a knowledge asset requires a client that can interact with the DKG network. OriginTrail provides a CLI tool (dkg), and you need to operate it in an environment where the tool can run (usually your own server or local machine). A DKG core node itself can also serve as a publishing entry, but running a core node requires a stake of at least 50,000 TRAC. For users who only occasionally publish knowledge assets, the CLI tool is a lighter choice.

Step 2: Prepare the knowledge asset content. Data needs to be organized in RDF format (Turtle or N-Quads serialization). You can use dkg ka create to create a named knowledge asset, and then use dkg ka write to write RDF data.

Step 3: Finalize and share. Before publishing on-chain, the knowledge asset first goes through finalize (sealing, calculating the Merkle root and signing an EIP-712 authorship proof), and then share to Shared Working Memory. This step is free and does not involve on-chain transactions.

Step 4: Publish to Verifiable Memory. This is the step that actually incurs costs. The dkg ka publish command submits the knowledge asset on-chain, and fees are deducted from your wallet. In addition to TRAC, your wallet needs enough native gas tokens (ETH on Ethereum). The publishing command explicitly requires "publisher wallets with native gas plus PCA registration or TRAC for direct spend".

Completion standard: After successful publishing, you will receive a UAL (Universal Asset Locator), in a format similar to did:dkg:{chainId}/{contract}/{kaId}. This UAL is proof that the asset is anchored on-chain and can be queried and verified in DKG Explorer.

A cost optimization option worth noting: PCA

If your publishing needs are ongoing (for example, regularly publishing knowledge assets), OriginTrail's Publishing Conviction Account (PCA) may be more cost-effective than paying TRAC directly each time.

The logic of PCA is: you lock a certain amount of TRAC and commit to locking it for a period of time. The system calculates a publishing discount based on "locked amount × lock duration". The larger the locked amount and the longer the duration, the higher the discount, up to 50% (governance adjustable). The discount remains fixed during the lock period.

For example, locking 500,000 TRAC for six months gives a discount of about 25%; locking 1 million TRAC for one year gives a discount of about 40%. For users who only publish once or twice, creating a PCA does not make sense; for knowledge asset operators who publish continuously, PCA can significantly reduce long-term costs.

About "source verification"

OriginTrail's knowledge assets themselves are designed with a provenance verification mechanism. Each knowledge asset generates a cryptographic fingerprint (Merkle root) at the time of publishing, stored on-chain. Anyone can recalculate the fingerprint of the content and compare it with the on-chain record to verify whether the content has been tampered with. The publisher's authorship signature (EIP-712 proof) covers the content commitment, author address, and asset ID, so "who published what" is traceable.

If the "source verification" you need refers to confirming that the TRAC you bought is real TRAC and not a counterfeit token, then the contract address is the only reliable basis for judgment: 0xaa7a9ca87d3694b5755f213b5d04094b8d0f0a6f (Ethereum mainnet). When swapping on OKX DEX, be sure to check the contract address and do not search only by token name.

A practical judgment beyond cost

If you just want to try out DKG knowledge asset publishing, you don't need to prepare a large amount of TRAC right away. Publishing a very small knowledge asset (a few KB) in a competitive Paranet may cost only a few TRAC. Adding OKX DEX swap slippage and Ethereum gas, the total cost is within a few dozen dollars.

But if you have neither TRAC nor ETH in a Web3 wallet, the main friction from scratch is the step of "moving funds from your OKX centralized account to an on-chain wallet". OKX withdrawals to a Web3 wallet have minimum withdrawal amounts and network fees. These are additional expenses beyond the publishing cost and need to be included in your budget.
