This feature is only for institutions
The ability to trade on OKX while keeping funds in BitGo relies on the Off-Exchange Settlement service of BitGo Go Network. The logic behind this system is: assets are custodied at BitGo, OKX only provides liquidity execution, and after the trade is completed, Go Network automatically handles settlement and transfer.
But it has a clear target audience: eligible institutional clients. The word "institutions" appears repeatedly in official announcements from both BitGo and OKX, not individual users. Regular retail accounts have no application entry, and OKX will not open this channel for individual users.
If you are not an institution, keeping coins in BitGo is no different from keeping them in your own cold wallet as far as OKX is concerned — OKX does not recognize BitGo's custody balance as tradable funds.
How institutions do it
After eligible institutions join Go Network, assets always remain in BitGo Singapore's segregated custody accounts and are not transferred to OKX's exchange wallets. When the institution places an order on OKX, BitGo's settlement infrastructure automatically transfers assets between the custody account and OKX based on the trade result.
Assets supported for this type of trading include ADA, BTC, ETH, LTC, SOL, USDC, USDT, and XRP. Custodied assets have insurance coverage of up to $250 million against theft, loss, or key misuse.
Options for individual users
If you are not an institution and want to trade on OKX, you only have two paths: transfer your coins to an OKX account, or use other third-party custody solutions supported by OKX (also for institutions).
There is currently no product path for individuals who want to keep assets in BitGo while also operating on OKX.
A boundary worth noting
Off-exchange settlement itself does not eliminate counterparty risk. It reduces the risk of "putting assets directly on an exchange," but risks still exist in settlement timing, collateral valuation, and legal enforceability. BitGo has also noted operational risks of the OES service in its own IPO filings, including trade data processing errors and asset transfer delays or failures.
