How Are OKX DEX Trading Costs Calculated? UI Fees, Gas, and Slippage

OKX DEX trading costs are not a single fee. They are made up of three parts: UI fees, gas fees, and hidden costs from slippage. UI fees are charged by OKX. Gas fees go to miners or validators. Slippage is the difference between the actual execution price and the price you expected. Before placing an order, the page shows the first two costs in advance, but slippage can only be judged indirectly through the "minimum received" amount.

UI Fee: Rate Depends on Token Pair Category

OKX DEX charges a UI service fee for token swaps completed through its interface. The rate is not fixed. It is based on the category of the tokens in the pair.

The current public fee structure is roughly as follows:

  • 0%: Trades between other tokens and other tokens are free.
  • 0.1%: Pairs between Category 1 and Category 1.
  • 0.25%: Pairs between Category 1 and Category 2, and between Category 2 and Category 2.
  • 0.5%: Pairs between Category 1 and other tokens, and between Category 2 and other tokens.

One exception to note: For tokenized stocks on X Layer trading with other tokens, the rate was adjusted to 0.01% after August 2026. Tokenized stocks on other chains are charged at the standard Category 2 rate.

How the UI fee is deducted depends on the trading pair. It is deducted from the tokens involved in the trade. If you use OKX DEX through an invite link, you may receive a UI fee discount. The specific discount rate is set by the inviter.

Gas Fee: Charged Whether the Trade Succeeds or Fails

Gas fees are network fees paid to blockchain miners or validators to include your transaction in a block. This fee is not collected by OKX, so it cannot be refunded.

Gas fees have a feature that is easy to underestimate: the fee is charged whether the transaction succeeds or fails. Validators still use computing resources to process the transaction. This is a common mechanism on all public chains, not unique to OKX DEX.

Before confirming a transaction on OKX DEX, you can use the settings icon to adjust the network fee level, such as slow, average, or fast. Higher fees give a better chance of priority inclusion in a block. Fees that are too low may cause slow confirmation or the transaction may be dropped when the network is congested.

The priority fee shown on the interface is a reference value based on recent on-chain conditions. The actual amount paid may be slightly different because the fee market changes block by block.

Slippage: Not Shown in the Fee Column, but Real

Slippage is the difference between the quote you see and the actual execution price. OKX official FAQ classifies it as an implicit cost. It cannot be completely avoided in most DEX trades.

When placing an order, the "minimum received" amount on the page is a direct reflection of slippage tolerance. If you set a low slippage tolerance, the trade may fail because the actual price deviates from your expectation. If you set a higher tolerance, the chance of execution increases, but you may get a worse price.

OKX DEX uses the X Routing algorithm to automatically calculate trading paths and split orders. The official description says this can provide lower slippage and lower network costs. But this does not change the fact that slippage exists as a cost.

How to Check Total Cost Before Placing an Order

Before confirming a transaction on OKX DEX, the trading panel shows several key parameters: estimated network fee, service fee, slippage tolerance, and minimum received.

What you really need to check is the "minimum received" field. It reflects the least amount of target tokens you will receive after slippage settings and UI fee deductions. If this number is much lower than you expected, you should lower the slippage tolerance or try a different trading pair with better liquidity.

One easily overlooked point: UI fees and gas fees are shown separately on the page, but the cost from slippage is not listed as a separate "slippage fee". You can only estimate it by comparing the expected price with the minimum received amount. For tokens with poor liquidity, slippage may be much higher than the UI fee.
