This is not a scam. It is not officially named "wallet ownership verification", its official name is Satoshi Test. The core logic is very simple: you send a tiny amount of crypto from that external wallet to Binance, to prove you fully control that address.
Step 1: Understand what this test is and why it appears
Goal: Learn exactly what the Satoshi Test is verifying.
The Satoshi Test is a compliance mechanism Binance launched to meet the international Travel Rule standard. The Travel Rule requires crypto platforms to collect and share information of both transaction parties, including full names and wallet addresses, when transferring crypto across different platforms.
The problem is, when you try to withdraw crypto from Binance to a brand new address you have never used for withdrawals before, Binance needs to confirm "this address really belongs to you". In the past, you might need to upload documents or wait for manual review, the Satoshi Test simplifies this process to one single on-chain operation.
How it works: You send a very small amount of crypto (for example 0.00001 BTC) from your external wallet, then submit the transaction ID and exact amount to Binance for confirmation.
Completion rule: Once Binance's system confirms the micro test transfer is received, this address will be marked as "Verified". You will never need to repeat the test for future withdrawals to the same address.
Step 2: Scenarios that will trigger the Satoshi Test
Scenario A: Withdraw to your own hardware or software wallet (such as MetaMask, Ledger)
If you select "Send to myself → Personal wallet" in the withdrawal questionnaire, the system will usually require you to complete the Satoshi Test to verify wallet ownership. After completion, the address status will change to "Verified".
Scenario B: Withdraw to another crypto exchange
If the receiving exchange also complies with the Travel Rule and is in Binance's system whitelist, you may need to complete the Satoshi Test to verify the address. If the receiving platform is not on the whitelist, you may only need to "declare" address ownership without doing the actual test.

Step 3: Complete the test process step by step
Operation guide:
When you see the "Satoshi Test required" prompt during withdrawal, click "Verify Now".
Fill out the withdrawal questionnaire, select either "Send to myself → Personal wallet" or "Send to another exchange".
Choose the crypto and network you want to use for the test. The system will generate a deposit address and specified transfer amount.
From the external wallet you are trying to verify, send the exact specified amount of crypto to the Binance-generated address.
Wait for on-chain confirmation. Once the transfer arrives, the address status will update to "Verified".
Completion confirmation: Check the address management page, the status of the target address changes from "Unverified" to "Verified".
Common failure reasons: Many users misunderstand the Satoshi Test as "send a small amount of crypto from Binance to the external wallet", and do the operation in the wrong direction. The correct operation is send a tiny amount of crypto from your external wallet to Binance, to prove you control that address.
Validation method after operation: After the micro test transfer is received, go back to the address management page to check the status. If it shows "Verified" or "Declared", you have passed the verification successfully.
