Why Does Binance Require Small Address Verification for Withdrawals?

Binance requires a small address verification (Satoshi test) on withdrawals mainly to meet international anti-money laundering requirements — it confirms that the receiving wallet is indeed controlled by you or your declared recipient, preventing funds from being sent to the wrong address or used for improper purposes.

Once verified, the address is recorded, and you won't need to repeat the verification for future withdrawals to that same address.

Prerequisites

  1. You are logged into your Binance account and have completed identity verification.

  2. You are initiating a withdrawal to an external wallet address you have never used before on Binance.

  3. The receiving wallet (e.g., MetaMask, Trust Wallet, another exchange account) is accessible to you and you can confirm incoming transactions.

Step 1: Initiate the withdrawal and trigger the verification prompt

Go to [Wallet] → [Withdraw], select the coin and enter the external wallet address. The system will then determine whether verification is required.

Case A: The system takes you directly to the amount input and confirmation page

  • This means the address is already verified or the current withdrawal scenario does not trigger the Satoshi test. Simply follow the normal process to complete the withdrawal.

Case B: The page prompts you to complete a "Satoshi test" or "small address verification"

  • This indicates it's your first withdrawal to this address, and you must go through the verification process. Proceed to the next step.

Completion standard: You can confirm that you are looking at the Satoshi test prompt page, not the direct withdrawal page.

Step 2: Complete the Satoshi test as instructed on the page

  1. Click [Start Verification] or [Verify Now] on the verification page.

  2. The system specifies the requirements for a small transfer:

    • Receiving wallet address: the external wallet address you are verifying (i.e., the withdrawal destination).

    • Deposit address: a dedicated address provided by Binance.

    • Amount: an exact amount specified by the system, usually extremely small (e.g., 0.00000208 BNB).

  3. Open your external wallet and send the exact amount to the designated Binance address (excluding the network fee — the total amount sent must be large enough so that the credited amount equals the required value).

  4. After completing the transfer, return to the Binance page and click [I have sent] or [I have deposited].

Completion standard: The page displays a "Pending" status, waiting for on-chain confirmation.

The test amount is a real deposit into your Binance account and belongs to you; it is not a fee or a deposit.

Step 3: Wait for the verification result

After submitting the test transfer, the system waits for on-chain confirmation and crediting.

Case A: Verification passed

  • The page status changes to "Verified", and the address is marked as trusted.

  • Completion standard: You can continue to initiate the formal withdrawal, and no further test is required.

Case B: Verification failed or timed out

  • Possible reasons: inaccurate amount, network congestion, incorrect network selection for the coin.

  • Completion standard: The page allows you to retry the test; follow the instructions and try again.

Step 4: Complete the formal withdrawal

After verification passes, return to the withdrawal page. The system will automatically skip the Satoshi test and go directly to the amount and security verification steps.

Complete the security verification (2FA) as usual and submit the withdrawal request.

Completion standard: The withdrawal request is submitted successfully and enters the processing flow.

Common causes of failure

Inaccurate test amount sent

The Satoshi test requires sending an exact amount with many decimal places (e.g., 0.00000208, not just 0.000002). If you send too much or too little, the system cannot match the test transfer, and verification will fail.

Risk reminders

  • Address is recorded only after the first verification: After passing the Satoshi test, the address is saved in your address book, and future withdrawals to it skip the test automatically. If you never complete the verification, each withdrawal may re-trigger the test.

  • Test amount cannot be refunded: The small test transfer is a real on-chain transaction that enters your Binance account and will not be returned to you.

  • Verification is unrelated to whitelisting: Passing the Satoshi test does not mean the address has been added to the withdrawal whitelist. Whitelisting must be enabled and managed separately in [Security Settings].

How to confirm the operation is complete

After completing Step 3, check the status of the address on the [Address Management] page — if it shows "Verified", the verification has taken effect.

Then return to the withdrawal page and initiate a new withdrawal with the same address (any amount, you don't have to submit it). If the system directly prompts for 2FA without showing the Satoshi test, it means the verification is permanently effective.
