Which Coins Can Be Used as Margin Collateral on Binance? Collateral Ratio Comparison

Binance accepts many coins as margin collateral, but they are not valued at 1:1. The system applies a discount based on each coin's liquidity and volatility. The official term is the "Collateral Ratio," meaning your asset value is reduced before it can be used as borrowing power.

First, the most mainstream: stablecoins, BTC, and ETH have the smallest discounts

Asset TypeCollateral RatioNotes
USDT / USDC / USDUp to 100%Stable, no haircut
BTC97.5% - 95%Very liquid, smallest discount
ETH / WBETH / BFUSD95% - 90%Strong major assets, slight tiering
BNB / SOL / XRP / DOGE95% - 90%The larger your holding, the bigger the haircut

In simple terms: if you hold $1,000 worth of BTC and the ratio is 95%, the system only counts $950 as collateral value. The remaining 5% is a safety cushion that helps prevent price swings from wiping out your account.

Second tier: popular altcoins with bigger discounts

AssetTier (USD)Collateral Ratio
LINK / SUI / PEPE0 - 1,000,00095%
1,000,000 - 2,000,00075%
2,000,000 - 5,000,00060%
ADA / LTC / NEAR / AVAX0 - 800,00095%
800,000 - 1,200,00075%
1,200,000 - 4,000,00050%

Key rule: For the same asset, the larger the amount you pledge, the lower the collateral ratio. Small positions get a decent ratio, but large positions should be prepared for a bigger haircut.

Third tier: long-tail assets and bStocks with lower ratios and higher thresholds

AssetTier (USD)Collateral Ratio
AAVE / BCH / DOT / SHIB / ARB / OP etc.0 - 200,00080%
200,000 - 400,00070%
400,000 - 800,00040%
800,000 - 1,000,00020%

Additionally, Binance recently added 15 bStocks tokenized securities (Tesla, Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta, etc.) to the collateral list. But note: they are only available to VIP 3 and above, do not support borrowing for now, and ordinary users cannot use them yet.

Where to check the latest data

Don't rely on memory. Check Binance's official "Margin Data" or "USD-M Futures Parameters" page for the latest tiered ratio table. Binance adjusts these from time to time, so always use the live data on the page.

Risk reminder: maximum collateral limit — you cannot pledge as much as you want

Binance sets a platform-level cap for each collateral asset (not a per-user limit). When an asset's total collateral across all users reaches 80% of the cap, any further transfer of that asset as collateral may be limited — you might only be able to transfer an equivalent of $50,000, or transfers may be blocked entirely.

For example, assume an asset has a platform cap of $1 million equivalent. If users across the platform have already pledged $850,000, or 85%, and you want to pledge another $100,000, the system will not allow it. In this case, you can only add up to $50,000 more equivalent. Less popular coins are more likely to hit these caps. Before opening a leveraged position, check whether the asset you want to pledge can still be transferred in.

How to verify after the operation

Go to WalletMargin Account or Futures Account, and check the number shown under "Collateral Value" or "Available Margin." If it is lower than the actual value of the assets you transferred, the haircut has already been applied. Click or tap the details next to it to see how much each coin was discounted.
