Where to Select Country and Mobile Area Code on Binance? Account Setup Entry

The country you fill in during registration and the country you choose during identity verification are not the same step. If you mix them up, the account opening process can get stuck. Many new users get confused by the country/region dropdown and the phone area code entry on the page. Below is the full process in order to help you avoid common mistakes.

Step 1: Enter your phone number during registration and choose area code +86

Open the Binance registration page. The dropdown with a national flag in front of the phone number field is the area code entry.

Goal: Select +86, the international area code for mainland China, so you can receive the SMS verification code.

How to do it: Click the dropdown that may show +1 or +852 by default. Scroll to find "+86 China", or simply type "86" to search quickly. After entering your phone number, click "Get Code" and wait for the SMS.

Completion: You receive a 6-digit verification code from Binance. Enter it and you can move to the next step.

Note: If the default country/region shown on the registration page is "Taiwan", you do not need to change it and can continue. That option only affects the display of the compliance registration page for that region. It does not affect the later identity verification process.

Step 2: When completing identity verification, manually select "China"

This is the easiest step to get wrong. Many users report that it is hard to quickly find the "China" option in the dropdown list.

Goal: The nationality or document-issuing country you fill in during identity verification must match the document you hold.

How to do it:

  1. After registration is complete, the system will automatically guide you to the identity verification (KYC) process.
  2. When you reach the "Select country or region" step, do not scroll through the list. Type the word "China" directly into the search box.
  3. The system will automatically match the correct option. Click it to select it.

Completion: The page shows that "China" is selected, and available document types such as ID card and passport appear below.

Step 3: Upload your documents and let the system compare them

After selecting the country, upload the front and back photos of your ID card as prompted.

Common reason for failure: Some users select "Taiwan" or "Hong Kong" as their residence during registration, and then select "China" during identity verification. The system sees that the uploaded document is a mainland China ID card and decides that the registration information and verification information do not match by region, so it rejects the application.

Correct logic: When verifying, select the country that issued the document you hold. If you hold an ID card issued by mainland China, select China. The residence region option during registration and the nationality/document-issuing country during verification do not need to be exactly the same.

Risk warning: The impact of choosing wrong is more troublesome than you think

Choosing the wrong country will directly block the verification process. If you select "Taiwan" during verification but upload a mainland China ID card, the system will prompt "The document does not match the selected country/region."

After rejection, it is costly to make changes: once your application is rejected, you cannot change the country by yourself. You need to contact customer service to open back-end modification permission. The overall review time can become much longer: at best a few hours, at worst 1-2 days.

How to check if the process is complete

Go to "User Center" → "Identity Verification". If the status shows "Verified" with a green check mark, your identity verification has passed. If the page shows "Under Review", just wait patiently and do not submit the application repeatedly, otherwise it may trigger risk control and slow down the review even more.
