Does Your Binance Account Name Need to Match Your ID? Fill-In Rules Explained

Short answer: Yes, it must match exactly, down to every letter.

Whether it is the pinyin name you enter during sign-up or the ID photo you upload later for identity verification (KYC), Binance's system strictly compares the two names. If they do not match, verification will fail, account features will be restricted, and you cannot withdraw or trade until this step is passed.

Here is how to fill it in correctly and avoid common mistakes.

Step 1: Know where to fill it in and what to enter

During Binance registration and verification, you need to enter your name in two places:

  • Name entered at registration: After you create an account with your email and password, the system asks for your personal information. Enter your pinyin name exactly as it appears on your ID or passport.

  • ID document uploaded for KYC: Later, when you upload your ID card or passport photo, the system automatically reads the name on the document using OCR. The name it reads must exactly match the name you entered at registration.

What to do: Open the Binance app or website, then go to "User Center" → "Identity Verification".

Completion standard: The page shows the name you entered and the document status. Before submitting, check letter by letter that your registered pinyin name is exactly the same as the pinyin on your document.

Step 2: Copy your document. Do not "translate" the name yourself

This is where most beginners make mistakes.

Case A: You use a Chinese mainland second-generation ID card

  • Enter your pinyin name in the format: surname first, given name last, separated by a space.

  • Example: If your ID card shows the name Zhang San (张三), enter "ZHANG SAN". Capital or lowercase letters usually do not matter, but the space and spelling order must be correct.

  • Do not enter "San Zhang", and do not use an English name like "Tony Zhang".

Case B: You use a passport or another document

  • Copy the spelling exactly from the machine-readable zone on the document (the two lines of characters at the bottom of a passport). If the name contains a hyphen "-" or a space, keep it exactly as it is.

Common reason for failure: Many people casually enter "San Zhang" during registration, but the system reads "ZHANG SAN" from the ID card. When the system compares them, it finds a mismatch and rejects the application directly.

Binance has strict rules for the name field: it must be 1–50 characters, cannot contain numbers or special symbols (such as !@#$%^&*), and the same letter cannot repeat more than 3 times in a row.

Step 3: How to confirm success after submitting

After filling in your information, uploading your ID photo, and completing face verification:

Under review: The page shows "Pending" or "Under review". This usually takes a few minutes to a few hours, or 1–2 business days if it is slow.

Approved: The page status changes to "Verified". You will receive a notification in the app or by email.

Rejected: The page shows "Failed" or "Rejected". Do not panic. Check the reason shown. Most of the time, the name spelling does not match or the photo is blurry.

Risk warning: If this step gets stuck, it is more troublesome than you think

Account features locked: Without completing identity verification, core features such as trading, withdrawals, and C2C buying are unavailable.

Failure in a second review: Even if you pass the first time, a later large withdrawal or a platform risk-control review may require you to submit proof of address (utility bill, bank statement, etc.). If the name on the bill does not match your account name (for example, you rent a home and the bill is in the landlord's name), you will be blocked again. The name on the proof of address must also exactly match the name on your identity document.

More troublesome situations: If you share a device with family members, or if the ID photo contains another person's face, the system may flag a "multiple faces" or "twins" issue. You will then need to record a video statement, which is a very complicated process.

How to check when you are done

You do not need to wait for an email. Log in to Binance and go to "User Center" → "Identity Verification". If the status shows a green check mark + "Verified", you have passed the name check. If it shows "Pending", do not do anything and just wait. Do not submit repeatedly, because this may trigger risk control and extend the review time.
