Binance Face and ID Photo Mismatch? Troubleshooting Failed Verification

Stop first. Do not keep retrying. The system is not just comparing your face to your ID photo. It checks whether you are a real person and whether your face and the ID belong to the same person. If you fail several times, risk control may lock you out. Retrying will only make it harder.

Face verification usually gets stuck at three steps. Do not rush to scan again. Check them in order.

Check 1: Is your ID photo failing first?

The system compares your face only if your ID photo can be read correctly. If the ID photo itself has problems, scanning your face 100 times will not help.

What to do: Open the Identity Verification page in the Binance App and check the status of your uploaded ID photo.

Common failure reasons:

  • The four corners of the ID are cut off, the text is blurry, or glare makes it unreadable.

  • Your name, ID number, or expiry date is covered or unclear.

  • The front and back sides were uploaded the wrong way.

What to do next: If the page lets you retake the ID photo, use the original document. Place it flat on a plain desk. Hold the rear camera directly above it, about 20–30 cm away. Tap the screen to focus, then take the photo. Zoom in after taking it: your name, ID number, and expiry date must be clear.

If the page says "ID already verified" but face verification still fails, the ID photo is not the problem. The issue is with the face scan. Keep reading.

Check 2: Simple mistakes during the liveness check

When the actual face scan fails, the reason is usually simple: lighting or something blocking your face.

Common failure reasons:

  • The lighting is too dark, too bright, or behind you, causing shadows on your face.

  • You are wearing glasses, a hat, or a mask, or your hair covers your face.

  • The camera lens is dirty, so the image is blurry.

  • The background is too messy, or another person appears in the frame.

What to do: Remove glasses, hats, and masks. Pull your hair behind your ears. Find a place with even lighting. Do not stand with a window behind you. Wipe your front camera. Face the camera directly with your face centered. A plain wall in the background is best.

When following the on-screen movements, move slowly. Hold each movement for 1–2 seconds. Do not rush through it. When opening your mouth, show your upper teeth. Turn your head a little more, but not too fast.

Check 3: Are you being blocked by risk control?

If you already changed your environment and cleaned the camera but still fail, the problem may be with your device or network.

Common failure reasons:

  • You are using a VPN or proxy. Your IP address does not match the country that issued your ID, which triggers risk control.

  • You use an older Android model or an outdated system version. Camera permissions or the liveness algorithm may have compatibility issues.

  • You turned on beauty mode, filters, or a virtual background. The system may decide you are not a real person.

What to do: Turn off your VPN and proxy and try again with your local network. Turn off all beauty and filter features. If the App keeps failing, try the web version (open the official Binance website in Chrome and complete verification there). The web version sometimes has a higher success rate than the App.

Risk warning: If you keep failing, do not ask someone else to verify for you

If face verification fails, it only means you did not pass verification. It does not mean you need to transfer money, pay a deposit, or let someone else operate your account remotely.

Strictly forbidden: Do not use someone else's face to scan for you, or borrow someone else's ID to verify. Binance's system can detect "multiple faces." If it finds this, your account may be locked directly. The unlock process is extremely difficult: you and every person who appeared in the video may need to record a statement video holding your ID and reading a required script.

How to check if you are done

After resubmitting, go to the Identity Verification page and check the status. If it shows "Verified" with a green checkmark, you have passed.

If it still fails, the page may show "Under review" or ask you to "Apply for manual review." Click "Apply for manual review" and upload the requested extra materials, such as a selfie holding your ID or a household register page. After submitting, wait up to 72 hours for a notice by in-app message or email. Do not submit again repeatedly during this time.
