How to Fix Binance Identity Verification When Camera Won't Work?
If the camera fails to work on the app, it's most likely that system permissions are not enabled. If it happens on the web version, it's usually due to browser permissions or the camera being occupied by another program. The two situations require different approaches, but you won't need to reinstall the app or reset your phone.
Preconditions
Before following any of the steps below, confirm one thing: the built-in camera hardware on the device you are using is functioning properly. Open your phone's native camera app or the camera application on your computer (e.g., Windows Camera app, macOS Photo Booth) and check if the image displays normally. If the native camera shows a black screen, that is a hardware issue, not a problem with Binance App.
Step 1: Check and Enable Camera Permissions
What to do: In your device's system settings, find the camera permission toggle for the Binance App or browser and make sure it is enabled.
How to do it:
Case A: Binance App (iOS/Android)
iOS: Open [Settings] - [Privacy & Security] - [Camera], find [Binance], and make sure the toggle is green (Allowed).
Android: Open [Settings] - [App Management] - [Binance] - [Permissions], find [Camera] and set it to "Allow". The exact path may vary slightly by phone brand; you can also search for "Permission Management" directly in settings.
If the permission is already enabled but the camera still fails to activate, try toggling it off and then back on (refreshing the permission status).
Case B: Binance Web (Browser)
Chrome: Click the lock icon (or "Not secure" warning) to the left of the address bar, select [Site Settings], and under "Permissions" set [Camera] to "Allow".
Edge/Safari: Similarly, find the site permission settings entry near the address bar and allow camera access.
If you are using browser "Incognito Mode" or "Private Mode", some browsers will disable the camera by default. Please switch to normal mode and try again.
On the web version, if you use ad-blocking extensions (e.g., AdBlock) or privacy protection plugins, they may block camera requests. Temporarily disable these extensions and try again.
When is this step complete: The camera permission in system settings explicitly shows "Allowed", and the camera prompt on Binance App/Web no longer displays a "Denied" or "Blocked" message.
Step 2: Check if Camera Is Occupied by Another App
What to do: Make sure no other app is currently using the camera. The camera can only be accessed by one application at a time.
How to do it:
Close all programs that might be using the camera: video meetings (Zoom, Teams, WeChat video), live streaming software, other camera apps, flashlight always-on mode, etc.
On a computer, you can open Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (macOS) to check if any process is using the camera.
Restart your phone or computer – this is the simplest and most effective way to clear all occupied processes.
When is this step complete: All apps that could use the camera are closed, or you have confirmed no background process is occupying the camera after restarting the device.
Binance App's facial recognition (liveness detection) is a mandatory step and cannot be skipped. If the camera hardware or permissions cannot be fixed, your account will not be able to complete verification, and its functions will be limited to "Withdrawal Only" mode.
Step 3: Switch Operating Environment or Device
What to do: If the camera still cannot be activated on the current device, try a different environment.
How to do it:
If you repeatedly fail on the app, switch to the web version and operate from a browser, or vice versa. Some users report that the app provides more stable permission management.
Switch to another device: use a family member's phone (remember to log out afterwards) or another computer to attempt verification.
If you are using an external camera on a computer, confirm that the camera driver is working properly and that the device is recognized by the system.
When is this step complete: You can successfully see the camera view in the new environment or on the new device and proceed to the facial recognition stage.
Common Failure Causes
Many users think a camera failure is a bug in the Binance App, when in reality the device's camera permission was reset to "Ask" or "Deny" after a system update — without the user ever checking the permission settings. Another common situation: when visiting the web version, the browser's camera permission popup was clicked "Block" and "Remember my choice" was checked, causing the popup to never appear again. This needs to be manually corrected in the site settings.
Risk Reminder
Facial recognition is a core security barrier for your account. Binance does not support skipping or circumventing this step. If verification cannot be completed due to camera issues, account functions will be restricted, and this step cannot be "waived" via customer support.
Do not use virtual cameras, emulators, or any third-party camera software to attempt "bypassing" facial recognition – Binance's liveness detection model can identify synthetic images. Accounts found doing so may be subject to risk control measures or even frozen.
Next step: First, check the camera permission for Binance App or browser in your system settings – this is the quickest troubleshooting method. If the permission is enabled but still not working, restart your device and try again. If everything above has been tried and the screen remains black, switch to another device – borrow a family member's or friend's phone to complete the verification process.
