What to Prepare When Resubmitting Documents About to Expire

When your ID documents are about to expire, there are three core things you need to prepare for resubmission: a new, unexpired original document; a well-lit environment with a clean background; and confirmation of your current KYC status. Don't wait until the document has already expired—expired documents are outright invalid, and your account will be restricted from trading during the re-verification process.

Prerequisites

Before you begin preparing, confirm the following two things:

  1. You have already obtained your new valid document. If your old document is about to expire but the new one hasn't arrived yet, you cannot proceed. The renewal timelines vary by document type—national ID cards can usually be renewed 6 months before expiration, driver's licenses need to be renewed 90 days in advance, and passports require a 7-30 business day processing period.

  2. You can log into your Binance account normally. You need to be able to receive email and SMS verification codes.

Some regions have additional validity period requirements for certain document types: Binance.US explicitly states that driver's licenses and state ID cards with less than 6 months of remaining validity will not be accepted as verification documents. Regular Binance users are also advised to follow this guideline—documents with too short a remaining validity period may affect the approval rate.

Step 1: Confirm the Document Update Entry Point and Current Status

What to do: Log into your Binance account, go to the Identity Verification page, and confirm you can see the "Update Identity Information" entry point.

How to do it:

  1. Log into the Binance App or website and go to [User Center] — [Identity Verification].

  2. Check the status displayed on the page:

    • If there is an existing KYC record and the document is about to expire, the page will usually display an "Update Identity Information" or "Reset KYC" button.

    • If you cannot find that entry point, open the online customer support chat and type "How to update Identity Verification." The automated customer service reply will include a "Click here to reset KYC" link.

What counts as done: You have successfully entered the "Update Identity Verification" page and can see the "The documents have expired" option in the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Select the Update Reason and Prepare New Document Photos

What to do: On the update page, select "My document has expired or is about to expire" as the update reason, then prepare photos of your new document.

How to do it:

  1. In the update reason dropdown menu, select: "My ID document has expired or will expire soon."

  2. Read the declaration terms, check [I understand and agree to this declaration], and click [Confirm Update].

New document photo preparation requirements:

  • The document must be within its validity period

  • Take the photo directly with your phone camera; screenshots, rephotographs, or scanned copies are not accepted

  • Ensure all four corners of the document are fully in frame, with no glare or blurriness

  • The text on the information page must be clearly legible

What counts as done: The new document photo has been taken, and the format and clarity meet the requirements.

Important: Once you click [Confirm Update], your account will immediately switch to "Withdrawal Only" mode—you will be unable to trade or deposit until the review is approved. It is recommended that you complete any necessary trades before proceeding.

Step 3: Submit the Update Application and Complete Facial Recognition

What to do: Upload the new document photos, fill in the updated information, and complete the liveness detection.

How to do it:

  1. Upload the front and back photos of your new document.

  2. The system will automatically recognize the information on the document (name, document number, validity period, etc.). Confirm that the system-recognized information matches the original document exactly.

  3. Confirm that your current residential address is correct.

  4. Complete facial recognition (liveness detection): align your face within the frame, remove hats and glasses, and ensure the lighting is sufficient with no obstructions to your face.

You can attempt verification up to 5-10 times per day (this varies slightly by region). If you reach the rejection limit within 24 hours, you will need to wait 24 hours before trying again.

What counts as done: The page displays "Submission Successful" or "Processing."

Step 4: Wait for Review and Watch for Result Notifications

What to do: After submitting, wait for the Binance review team to process your application and watch for notifications in the meantime.

How to do it:

  • Once the review is approved, Binance will send a notification email to your registered email address.

  • If the review is not approved, the page will display the rejection reason (such as unclear photo, mismatched information, etc.). Revise based on the prompts and resubmit.

What counts as done: You have received a notification from Binance confirming that your verification status has been restored to "Verified" and your account functions have returned to normal.

Common Reasons for Failure

  • Proceeding before the new document is in hand: Selecting "documents have expired" without actually having a new document to upload results in failure when the review team finds no updated information.

  • New document photo does not meet requirements: Blurry, glare, missing corners, or using a rephotograph/screenshot instead of an original photo.

  • Information filled in does not match the document: If the system's automatically recognized name or document number differs from the original document, you need to manually correct it. Many people skip this step and submit directly.

Risk Reminders

  • After submitting the update application, your account will be restricted to "Withdrawal Only" mode. If you need to trade urgently, it is recommended to settle any pending trades before proceeding.

  • Do not submit false documents or documents belonging to someone else. Binance performs facial comparison checks; if identity fraud is discovered, the account will be frozen.

Next Steps: First, confirm that your new document is in hand, then log into Binance and go to the [Identity Verification] page to begin the update. If you do not see the update entry point, use the online customer support chat to send "How to update Identity Verification" to obtain the reset link. After submission, watch your email—the review is usually completed within 1-3 business days. If you haven't received a notification beyond this timeframe, you can contact customer support to inquire about the progress.
