What is OKX KYC? Why Is Identity Verification Required?
KYC stands for "Know Your Customer," a standard compliance process used globally in the financial industry to verify users' real identities. On OKX, KYC is mandatory. Any user who wants to use trading, deposit, and withdrawal functions must complete it. There is no way to bypass KYC and use the account normally. Unverified accounts can only view market data and check assets; no substantive operations are possible.
Why OKX Requires Mandatory KYC
Legal Compliance: Financial regulators in various countries require crypto trading platforms to implement anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) regulations. As a global platform, OKX must comply with the laws and regulations of the countries it operates in, otherwise it could face regulatory penalties or even be forced to shut down local operations.
Fund Security: KYC acts as an identity lock on your account. If someone steals your password and tries to log in, the system can intercept and trace the activity based on identity information. In the event of account theft or disputes, identity verification is the core evidence that the account belongs to you.
Preventing Financial Crime: Real-name verification effectively prevents money laundering, fraud, illegal fund transfers, and other activities, protecting the healthy development of the entire cryptocurrency ecosystem.
There is no way to skip KYC and use OKX's trading features. Any service claiming to offer "KYC-free registration" is completely untrustworthy. Using someone else's identity to register will result in permanent account freezing.
OKX KYC Tier System
OKX uses a tiered verification system, with different levels granting different functional permissions and limits.
| Verification Level | Required Documents | Daily Withdrawal Limit | Available Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unverified | None | 0 | View markets only |
| Level 1 (Basic Verification) | ID card/passport/driver's license + facial recognition | Approx. 10,000 USD | Basic spot trading, P2P (lifetime limit $5,000) |
| Level 2 (Advanced Verification) | Level 1 documents + proof of address (utility bill/bank statement, within 3 months) | Up to 1,000,000 USD | Futures, margin, earn, NFT, and all features |

Level 2 Special Note: Level 2 verification requires an additional proof of address and takes longer than Level 1, usually completed within 3 business days. After completing Level 2, the withdrawal limit is raised from $10,000 to up to $1,000,000, and all trading products are unlocked.
How to Complete KYC Verification (App Steps)
The following steps must be completed in the OKX App; the web version does not support facial recognition.
1. Enter Identity Verification
What to do: Find the KYC verification entrance in the app.
How to do it:
Open the OKX App and tap the user center icon (circular avatar) in the upper left corner of the home screen.
Tap the nickname/account area at the top.
Select 【Identity Verification】, then tap 【Verify Now】 to enter the verification page.
Completion indicator: You have entered the identity verification page and the system prompts you to select a document type.
2. Select Document Type and Upload Photos
What to do: Choose the type of document you will use and upload clear photos.
How to do it:
Choose the document type based on your region (users in mainland China only support ID cards; other regions support passports or driver's licenses).
Upload a photo of the front of the document, ensuring all four corners are visible, no glare, and the text is clear.
Upload a photo of the back of the document (if applicable).
Completion indicator: The system recognizes and displays the name and document number from the document, and you proceed to the facial recognition step.
3. Complete Facial Recognition
What to do: Verify that you are the document holder through liveness detection.
How to do it:
Tap 【Start Verification】 and follow the on-screen prompts to complete actions such as blinking and turning your head.
Ensure no face coverings (no hats, sunglasses), adequate lighting, and a simple background.
Completion indicator: The system shows "Verification passed" or "Submission successful."
Facial recognition must be done within the App; it cannot be completed on the web version. If facial recognition fails, check the lighting and any face obstructions, then try again.
4. (Optional) Level 2 Advanced Verification: Submit Proof of Address
What to do: If you need higher limits or full access to all features, submit a proof of address.
How to do it:
On the identity verification page, select "Upgrade to Level 2."
Upload a proof of address document issued within the last 3 months, including but not limited to:
Utility bills (water, electricity, gas)
Bank statements
Official letters from government agencies
The document must clearly display your name and current residential address, matching your registration information.
Completion indicator: The system displays "Submission successful," and your application enters review.
Review Time and Common Reasons for Failure
Review Time:
Level 1 verification: Usually completed within 10-30 minutes, with complex cases taking no more than 24 hours.
Level 2 verification (including proof of address): Usually takes 1-3 business days.
Common Reasons for Failure:
Document photo is blurry, has glare, or information is obscured.
The name or document number entered does not match the document photo.
Document has expired or has less than 3 months until expiration.
Face is obscured or lighting is too dim during facial recognition.
Level 2 proof of address is older than 3 months or the name/address does not match.
Risk Reminder: Once KYC information is submitted and approved, it cannot be changed or revoked by the user. If you need to modify key information (such as name, document number), you must contact OKX official customer support and provide supporting documentation. Using someone else's identity to register or buying/selling verified accounts will result in permanent account freezing and irretrievable funds.
How to Confirm KYC Completion
After KYC is approved, you will receive an in-app notification, and the status in your account center will change from "Under Review" to "Verified." After logging into your account, go to 【Security Center】 and check that the verification level shows "Level 1" or "Level 2." This indicates successful verification, and all trading functions are unlocked.
