How to Complete Identity Verification (KYC) After Registering on OKX?
After registering, identity verification (KYC) is not optional—without completing it, your account can only view market data; you cannot trade, deposit, or withdraw. The entire verification process is operated on the App, divided into two steps: first complete Lv.1 basic verification, then complete Lv.2 identity verification (face recognition) as needed. The whole process usually takes anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours.
1. Confirm You Have Registered and Logged In
What to do: Make sure you already have an OKX account and can log in normally.
How to do it:
Open the OKX official App (preferred) or visit the official website.
Log in with the phone number/email and password you used during registration.
If you haven't registered yet, complete the registration process first, then come back for verification.
How to know it's complete: Successfully logged in and able to see the homepage market data.
Verification must be done on the App. The web version does not support face recognition and video verification.
2. Enter the Identity Verification Portal
What to do: Find the verification page and start submitting materials.
How to do it:
Tap the "My" icon in the lower-right corner of the App or the profile avatar in the upper-left corner.
Go to "Profile" or "Security Center".
Find the "Identity Verification" or "Verify Now" button and tap to enter.
How to know it's complete: The page displays verification levels (Lv.1/Lv.2/Lv.3) and the "Start Verification" button.
Prerequisites:
Logged into the account.
Have your valid ID document at hand (second-generation ID card is most reliable).
Ensure the App is updated to the latest version (older versions often cause weird errors).
3. Complete Lv.1 Basic Verification (Fill in Identity Information)
What to do: Submit basic information such as name and ID number.
How to do it:
Select "Verify Now" on the verification page.
Follow the prompts to fill in your Chinese name (must match the Chinese characters on your ID exactly; no homophones or mix of simplified/traditional characters).
Fill in your ID number, check digit by digit; note that the letter "X" must be capitalized.
Select nationality, confirm date of birth format (YYYY-MM-DD).
How to know it's complete: Information filled in, click "Next" to enter the document upload step.
Common reasons for failure:
The name contains uncommon characters and OCR recognition fails — contact customer service for manual verification.
The "X" in the ID number was mistakenly entered as lowercase "x".
Risk reminder: Information must be true. False documents will result in permanent account freezing and possible legal liability.
4. Upload Photos of the Front and Back of Your ID Card
What to do: Take and upload clear photos of both sides of your ID card.
How to do it:
The system will guide you to photograph the national emblem side (front) and the photo side (back) in sequence.
Photo requirements:
Place the ID card on a solid-color flat background, with all four corners fully in frame.
No glare, no obstructions, no alterations.
Use the native camera, disable any beauty or filter effects.
File size within 2MB, resolution no less than 600×800 pixels.
Hold still for 2 seconds for each photo, wait for the system to indicate capture success before taking the next one.
How to know it's complete: Both photos uploaded successfully, proceed to the next step "Face Recognition".
Common reasons for failure:
Blurry, glare, cut-off corners, or obscured by fingers.
Using screenshots or black-and-white photocopies instead of the original color document.
Photo edges cropped, incomplete four corners.
5. Complete Face Recognition (Liveness Detection)
What to do: Follow the on-screen prompts to perform actions and verify that you are the real person.
How to do it:
Keep your face centered in the frame, with even lighting; avoid backlighting or strong direct light.
Remove hats, sunglasses, masks; if glasses cause reflection, it is recommended to remove them.
Perform actions according to voice or text prompts, which usually include:
Blink
Turn head left and right
Open mouth
Nod up and down
The whole process takes about 5–10 seconds, no need to speak.
How to know it's complete: System prompts "Liveness detection passed", then enter the submission and review step.
Common reasons for failure:
Ambient light too dim or backlit, causing shadows on the face.
Movement amplitude too small or too fast, system cannot recognize.
Dirty camera lens, beauty function not turned off.
Failed more than 3 consecutive times — it is recommended to wait 2 minutes before trying again to avoid triggering limits.
6. Submit for Review and Wait for the Result
What to do: Confirm all information is correct, then submit and wait for system review.
How to do it:
Check the "KYC Information Authorization Agreement".
Click "Submit for Review".
The system will display the "Under Review" status.
How to know it's complete: Submission successful, page status changes to "Under Review".
Review time:
Automatic review: Usually passed within a few minutes if documents are clear.
Manual review: During peak times or when further verification is needed, results may take up to 24 hours.
Special circumstances (such as supplementary materials): May extend to 72 hours.
Video verification (if required for C2C function): Results usually within 1 hour.
Review results will be notified via App push or in-site message. If you haven't received a result after 24 hours, you can contact customer service for inquiries.
7. Handle Review Rejection (If Applicable)
What to do: If the review is rejected, check the reason and resubmit.
How to do it:
Go to the "Identity Verification" page and view the rejection reason or failure code.
Correct based on the issue type:
| Failure Code / Reason | Solution |
|---|---|
| Document blurry / glare | Retake in a better lighting environment, ensuring all four corners are complete |
| Information mismatch | Verify that name and ID number match the document exactly |
| Face recognition not passed (LIVE-12) | Remove glasses, use proper frontal lighting, and retry with correct actions |
| Document already used on another account | Contact customer service to request unbinding |
After making corrections, click "Re-authenticate" to submit again.
How to know it's complete: Review passed, page shows Lv.2 verification completed.
Common reasons for failure:
The same document can be submitted up to 3 times per day; exceeding the limit requires waiting until the next day to reset.
After being rejected twice or more consecutively, you need to manually trigger the manual review channel: refresh the page until a red "×" icon appears, then click the purple "Go to KYC" button to enter the manual review process.
Next steps: After verification is passed, your withdrawal limit will increase from 0 (without verification) to the Lv.2 corresponding amount. It is recommended to bind Google Authenticator (2FA) in the "Security Center" to add a second lock to your account. If you plan to buy coins with fiat currency, you also need to complete an additional video verification in "C2C Buy" → "My" → "C2C Video Verification" to activate the OTC trading function.
