How to Use Binance Chat? Friend Transfers and Identity Verification

The transfer feature in Binance Chat is only available to users who have both completed identity verification. Transfers go through the Binance Pay channel with zero fees. Its core design puts "chatting" and "payment" in the same interface, so you do not need to jump out to copy an address or ask the other person for a wallet. But because the transfer threshold is low and the operation is fast, identity verification becomes the most important security requirement — before you send money, you must confirm the other person really is who they claim to be.

Requirement: Both Sides Must Complete KYC

All users must complete identity verification before they can use the chat and transfer features in Binance Chat. This is not a one-sided requirement. Both parties must meet it. If you have passed KYC but the other person has not, you cannot send or receive transfers between each other.

There is no explicit "not verified" notice shown in the chat interface. If you try to send a transfer to a contact who has not completed KYC, the operation may fail. A safer approach is to confirm the other person has also completed identity verification before transferring, especially when trading with someone you do not know well.

Adding Friends: Three Ways to Find Someone

In Binance Chat, connections are built through a unique Chat ID. Every user has one, and it can be used to find someone precisely.

After entering the chat interface, tap the 【+】 icon in the top right corner and select 【Add Contact】. You have three ways to add a friend:

  1. Enter the other person's Chat ID: the most direct method.

  2. Enter the other person's Binance UID: if you know their Binance account ID, this also works.

  3. Scan the other person's QR code: the other person shows their 【Add Friend】 QR code, and you scan it.

After sending a friend request, the other person must accept it before you can start chatting or transferring. This "accept" step is itself a kind of filter: if the other person never accepts requests from strangers, you cannot force a conversation or transfer.

Transferring in Chat: Path and Result

If both sides are already friends, you can complete a transfer directly in the chat window. According to Binance's official FAQ, the steps are as follows:

  1. Open the chat window with the other person.

  2. Tap the 【Transfer】 button in the chat interface (it may also appear as 【Send Crypto】).

  3. Select the asset to send (supports USDT, BNB, BTC, etc.), enter the amount, and optionally add a note.

  4. Review the transfer details, select the payment account, and tap 【Confirm】.

Transfers are zero-fee and go through the Binance Pay channel. After a successful transfer, you can see the transfer record directly in the chat window. This means transfer history is tied to chat history, making it easy to trace back — if you have a transaction with a stranger, this chat record is the most direct evidence.

One boundary to note: transfer availability may be affected by regulations and feature support in your region. Some regions may allow chat but restrict transfers, while others may not support either. If you do not see the 【Transfer】 button in the chat interface, it is very likely your region is not within the supported scope.

Identity Verification: What You Must Do Before Transferring

The transfer experience in Binance Chat is very smooth, but that smoothness increases risk: you do not need to check a long address or wait for network confirmation. A few taps and the money is gone. This means once you send money to the wrong person, there is almost no intermediate step to stop it.

Binance's own official safety reminder points to the same issue: before transferring to someone you know, confirm the other person's identity again, preferably through face-to-face or video call. Instant messaging accounts can be stolen — the person asking you to borrow money or transfer funds may not be your friend at all, but a hacker.

In the context of Binance Chat, this means:

  • If you only know the other person online, do not send money just because "you get along well." Friendliness in chat history has no necessary connection with real identity.

  • If the other person is an "acquaintance" but suddenly asks for a transfer through chat, confirm first through another channel such as a phone call or video.

  • If the other person asks you to transfer money for reasons like "high returns" or "internal channels," that itself is a danger signal. Binance's official terms explicitly prohibit promoting fraudulent schemes or unauthorized investment advice in chat.

Keeping chat records is also a practical habit. Binance's risk team recommends preserving chat history before any transaction, especially with strangers. If a problem occurs, a complete chat record is the most useful evidence for reporting and investigation.

A Few Points That May Get You Stuck

Cannot see the Chat entry. First make sure the App is the latest version. If there is no chat icon on the homepage, try typing "chat" in the search bar. If it still does not appear, it is very likely your region does not support it. Binance's official article also notes that "some features will be rolled out gradually, and some features are subject to local restrictions."

Cannot transfer after adding a friend. Check whether both you and the other person have completed KYC. If only one side has completed it, the transfer feature will not be enabled.

Is there no confirmation step for transfers? Transfer details are shown for review before sending, and you must tap 【Confirm】 to complete it. If you have any hesitation about the amount or recipient, that confirmation page is your last chance to stop.
