After opening a main account, you can create sub-accounts on both the official website and the app. A sub-account is essentially an auxiliary account that helps you isolate trading strategies, manage multiple bots, and control risks separately. However, sub-accounts do not support withdrawals; to withdraw, you must first transfer assets back to the main account. The following steps are provided for the Web and App versions.

Step 1: Confirm Your Sub-Account Creation Permission

Regular users can create up to 5 sub-accounts, while VIP users can create 20-30 depending on their tier.

How to: Log in to OKX, go to [Profile] — [Sub-accounts] page, click [Create sub-account]. The system will display the creation limit corresponding to your tier.

Completion standard: Confirm that you still have remaining quota for creating sub-accounts.

Prerequisite: Completed KYC identity verification, account in good standing.

Step 2: Create a Sub-account on the Web

How to:

  1. Open the OKX official website and log in to your main account.

  2. Click the [Profile] icon (avatar) in the upper right corner, select [Sub-accounts] from the dropdown menu.

  3. Click [Create sub-account].

  4. Enter a sub-account login name (customizable) and select the account type:

    • Standard sub-account: Used to separate funds, run different trading strategies, does not support withdrawals.

    • Managed sub-account: Entrusted to a professional trading team; requires entering the trading team's UID for binding.

  5. After confirming the information, click [Submit All], enter the SMS verification code and Google Authenticator code to complete creation.

What counts as completed: The page shows a success message and the sub-account appears in the list.

Step 3: Create a Sub-account on the App

How to:

  1. Open the OKX App and log in to your main account.

  2. Tap the grid icon in the upper left corner of the homepage to open the menu.

  3. Tap [Switch Account] in the upper right corner, then find and tap [Create Sub-account] at the bottom of the page.

  4. Tap [Next], set the sub-account name, and choose whether to deposit funds (i.e., transfer assets from the main account upon creation).

  5. Tap [Create Account] and enter the identity verification code (2FA) to confirm.

What counts as completed: The page shows a success message.

Common failure reasons: Incorrect or expired 2FA code. Make sure the time on your Google Authenticator is synced with your phone's time (enable "Automatic time adjustment"), otherwise you will keep getting errors.

Step 4: Transfer Funds to the Sub-account

The sub-account is empty by default; you need to transfer assets from the main account to start trading.

How to: On the sub-account management page, click the [Transfer] button, select the currency and amount to transfer from the main account, confirm and submit.

What counts as completed: The sub-account balance shows the credited amount.

Step 5: Withdrawal Handling from the Sub-account

Sub-accounts do not support direct withdrawals (standard sub-accounts do not support withdrawals or C2C trading). You need to handle it as follows:

How to: Log in to the main account, go to the sub-account management page, transfer the sub-account's assets back to the main account, then initiate a withdrawal from the main account.

What counts as completed: Assets have been moved from the sub-account back to the main account, and normal withdrawal is possible.

Risk reminder: After creation, the sub-account will inherit the main account's fee tier starting from 24:00 (UTC+8) that day, and it updates automatically every day. If you need to delete a sub-account or enable more trading modes (such as futures, margin), you can only do so on the web version; it cannot be done on the app.

Verification Methods After Creation

See the new account name on the [Sub-accounts] page, with status showing "Normal". Successfully switching from the main account to that sub-account via [Switch Account] indicates the creation is complete.

Follow-up tip: If you need the sub-account to use trading modes like futures or margin, log in to the web version and enable the corresponding permissions under [More Actions] in sub-account management.
