Must Your Name Match Your ID Exactly When Registering on OKX?

When registering for OKX, your name must match your identity document exactly. The OKX system compares your name, ID number, and other identity fields in real time during the Level 1 basic verification. Any spelling error, use of pinyin instead of Chinese characters, mix of simplified and traditional characters, or homophone substitution will cause verification to fail. There is no room for exceptions.

1. Why It Must Match

Understanding OKX's identity verification logic means accepting that "exact match" is a hard requirement.

OKX's identity verification process consists of two steps: manual information entry and automatic OCR recognition. The system automatically compares the name and ID number you enter with the document image you upload later. If the name does not match, the review will be rejected outright. The platform explicitly requires users to submit their legal name, and the identity verification requires a valid given name, middle name, and surname.

Clearly understand that "match" is a system-level hard matching rule, not something that can be negotiated.

If you use someone else's document or enter a name that does not match the document, not only will your verification be rejected, but you may also be unable to register again because the identity information is already occupied.

2. Confirm Your Document Type and Filling Rules

Check the filling requirements based on the type of document you hold.

Case A: Mainland China users using an ID card

  • Enter your name in Chinese characters exactly as it appears on your ID card. Do not use pinyin, an English name, a former name, or a nickname.
  • Double-check every digit of your ID number. If the last digit is the letter "X", it must be capitalized.
  • Use the date format YYYY-MM-DD. Do not enter a lunar calendar date.

Case B: Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, or overseas users using a passport or other documents

  • Enter the legal name spelling exactly as it appears on the document, following the system prompts.
  • Name order (given name / surname) is compatible with the system, as long as the character spelling matches the document.

You should know which type of document you are using and have prepared the correct spelling of your name accordingly.

Prerequisite: Your document must be valid, and the document image must be clearly legible with all four corners visible.

3. What to Do If You Find Your Name Is Wrong

If your name is entered incorrectly, check if there is a chance to correct it.

Case A: You haven't submitted the verification yet

  • If you only filled in your name during registration but haven't submitted the Level 1 verification, you can simply go back and correct it. No special process is needed.

Case B: You have submitted the verification but it was rejected

  • The system will show the rejection reason. Correct your name accordingly and resubmit. Each account usually has multiple submission attempts.

Case C: You have passed verification but discover a name error

  • You cannot correct it directly online. Once the identity verification information is approved, the system does not allow users to edit it independently.
  • If there is an obvious entry error (such as a wrong character or spelling mistake), you must submit a correction request through OKX's official customer support, attaching a clear photo of your identity document. It will be processed by a manual review.
  • Changing the verification subject (changing user A to user B) is basically not feasible. You can only cancel the account and re-register.

Based on your current verification status, determine your next steps.

Risk reminder:

  • One identity document can only verify one OKX account and cannot be reused. If verification fails due to a name mismatch, correct it and resubmit. Do not try to bypass this with another document.
  • Registering with a false name or using someone else's identity may result in your account being frozen with no chance of appeal.

How to confirm you have handled it correctly?

After submitting the Level 1 identity verification, if the page shows "Approved" or the status changes to "Verified", your name has matched the document. If rejected, correct it according to the specific reason shown by the system and resubmit. It is recommended to check name and ID number character by character in a text editor before submitting the verification, to confirm they are correct before proceeding.
