If you receive a Travel Rule notice, do not panic. This pop-up is not a separate menu. It is a compliance form that only appears during the withdrawal process. According to OKX's official explanation, only about 1% of users receive this type of request about source of funds or work and residence information. The Travel Rule form appears at the final step of your withdrawal: after you enter the address and amount, select the network, and click "Submit", the form will pop up.
Step 1: Start a normal withdrawal and the form will appear automatically
What to do: Start a withdrawal so the Travel Rule form appears naturally.
How to do it (App): Tap [Assets] at the bottom → [Withdraw]. Choose the coin, enter the withdrawal address and amount, select the network, and tap "Submit". The system will then open a new page. The title usually says "Provide Recipient Information" or "Travel Rule". This pop-up is the entry you are looking for.
How to do it (Web): Go to [Asset Management] → [Withdraw]. The process is the same. After entering the address and amount, click "Submit", and the form will appear on the current page.
Completion standard: The page shows required fields such as "Recipient's Full Name", "Country of Residence", and "City". If you see these fields, you are in the right place.
Common mistake: Some people think this form is under "Settings" or "Address Management". It is not. It only appears during a withdrawal. If you do not start a withdrawal, you will not see it.
Step 2: Choose the "Recipient Type" - answer truthfully
After the form appears, the main point is to answer two questions:
First question: Who are you sending money to?
Myself (another wallet or another exchange account of mine)
Someone else (a third party, such as a friend or customer)
Second question: Where are you sending it?
Exchange or platform (for example, if the other party uses a centralized platform such as Binance or Bybit)
Private wallet (for example, a self-custody wallet such as MetaMask or TokenPocket)
Step 3: Choose based on the actual situation - do not fill in random information
Case A: Sending to your own account on another exchange Select "Myself" → "Exchange or platform", then find the target platform in the dropdown list. If it is not listed, select "others" and enter the name manually.
Case B: Sending to your own private wallet (such as MetaMask or OKX Web3 Wallet) Select "Myself" → "Private wallet". In this case, the system may sometimes ask you to verify by sending a very small amount to that address to prove the address belongs to you.
Case C: Sending to a friend or another third party Select "Someone else", then continue by choosing whether the recipient uses an exchange or a private wallet. You will also need to enter the recipient's full name, country, and city. In this case, more complete information is required.
Completion standard: Fill in all required fields and click "Submit" or "Confirm". If the information is complete, the page will return to the withdrawal confirmation screen for two-factor verification (email or Google Authenticator code). Only after this step is the withdrawal truly submitted.
Risk reminder: wrong or deliberately false information
Travel Rule is a global anti-money laundering compliance requirement. OKX must collect recipient information before releasing withdrawals. According to platform rules, if the name you enter does not match the actual recipient, or you select "Myself" but are actually sending to someone else, risk control may freeze the withdrawal or trigger an account review.
According to OKX, these questions are not intended to collect user privacy information. They are only used to clarify facts and prevent platform abuse. Users only need to provide accurate information to complete the check, and their assets and account security will not be affected. The few cases of frozen withdrawals are usually caused by judicial freezes or links to terrorist financing, drug trafficking, sanctions, and similar issues.
How to check if you completed it
After submitting the form and completing two-factor verification, go to [Assets] → [Withdrawal History] and check the status. If it says "Processing" or "Completed", the form was submitted successfully. If the status says "Pending information" or "Additional information needed", the form is not finished. Go back and submit it again.
