When Travel Rule information verification fails, your deposited funds will be frozen. However, you can recover them by resubmitting the questionnaire or providing a declaration stating that you are unable to supply the required information. The course of action depends on whether your verification status is "Pending" or "Rejected," as well as whether you can provide the complete sender information.

Step 1: Confirm Your Deposit Verification Status

Log into your Binance account, go to Wallet > Deposit History, and locate the deposit transaction with the issue. Check the travelRuleStatusV2 status returned by the system:

  • PENDING: Verification is in progress, funds are frozen, and you need to complete the questionnaire.

  • REJECTED: Verification has failed, funds cannot be credited, and you need to resubmit or choose an alternative method.

  • PASSED: Verification is complete, funds have been released, and no further action is required.

What counts as completing this step: Confirm whether the current verification status is PENDING or REJECTED.

Step 2: Take Action Based on the Status

Scenario A — Status Is PENDING

If the system shows travelRuleStatusV2: PENDING, it means you need to complete the deposit questionnaire to unfreeze your funds. Here's how:

  1. Open the Binance App or website, go to Deposit History, and find the relevant transaction.

  2. The page will display a questionnaire entry. Fill in the sender's name, wallet address, and other required information as prompted.

  3. Submit the questionnaire and wait for the system to review it.

Binance official reminder: The questionnaire content may vary by region. The information you provide must match the actual details of the sender.

Scenario B — Status Is REJECTED or You Cannot Provide Sender Information

If you are unable to provide the sender's complete information, or if your submission was rejected:

  1. On the questionnaire page, click the Unable to Provide button.

  2. Selecting this option means the deposit will not be credited to your account, and the funds will be returned to the sender.

  3. The sender needs to contact their wallet service provider or handle the fund return on their own.

Scenario C — Unsure of the Sender's Identity (Self-Custodial Wallet Deposit)

If you deposited funds from a self-custodial wallet (such as MetaMask or Trust Wallet) to Binance and cannot prove the sender's identity:

  1. Binance may require you to complete a Satoshi Test (micro-transaction test) to verify wallet ownership.

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the test. Once verification is passed, the funds will be unfrozen.

What counts as completing this step: You have chosen the appropriate action based on your verification status and have submitted the questionnaire or selected "Unable to Provide."

Step 3: Confirm the Funds Have Arrived After Verification

After submitting the questionnaire or completing the verification test, go back to Deposit History to check the status. When travelRuleStatusV2 changes to PASSED, the funds have been released and you should see the balance in your spot account.

If the verification is rejected, the funds will not be credited, and you need to follow the instructions in Step 2, Scenario B.

What counts as completing this step: The transaction status in Deposit History shows as complete, and the funds have arrived in your account.

Common Reasons for Failure

  • Information provided does not match the sender: Details such as name spelling and wallet address must be accurate. Binance will cross-check with the sender's VASP.

  • Ignoring the questionnaire notification: Failing to promptly check the questionnaire entry in Deposit History after depositing may result in funds being frozen for an extended period.

  • Self-custodial wallet verification not completed: Depositing from a personal wallet to Binance may trigger the Satoshi Test. If the test is not completed, the funds cannot be credited.

Risk Reminders

  • Inaccurate information may lead to transaction delays or require additional documentation. In severe cases, the transaction may be rejected.

  • Choosing "Unable to Provide" means the deposit cannot be credited and the funds will be returned to the sender. This process may take several business days.

  • Binance may directly reject transfers involving high-risk jurisdictions. For details, please refer to Binance's Terms of Use.

Go to Deposit History to check the status of the deposit. If it is PENDING, complete the questionnaire as guided on the page. If it is REJECTED and you cannot provide correct supplementary information, select "Unable to Provide" to have the funds returned to the sender. After verification is passed, funds are released more quickly during business days. In certain jurisdictions, it may take several business days if processed outside of business days.
