Why Haven't Your OKX Copy Trading Parameter Changes Synced?

You just changed the per-order copy amount from 10 USDT to 100 USDT, but when the lead trader opened a new position, the position you copied was still sized at 10 USDT—the parameter was changed, but it didn't take effect.

There is only one possible scenario: you changed the "copy trading parameters", but there is an "effective boundary" between the existing copy relationship and newly opened positions.

In OKX's copy trading rules, parameter modifications only affect newly opened copy positions after the change; existing active copy trades are not affected. If you still had open copy orders from the lead trader when you changed the parameters, those old orders remain unchanged. The issue lies with "new orders"—either the parameter change wasn't successfully saved, or the system was still reading the old parameters when the new order was triggered.

Prerequisites: Confirm three things before troubleshooting

  1. Confirm whether you are copying contract or spot traders—the entry points differ, but the logic for why parameters don't sync is the same.

  2. Make sure you changed them on the "Copy Settings" page, not the contract trading page—many people mistake the leverage multiple on the contract page for copy settings; they are two different things.

  3. Make sure you clicked "Confirm/Save" after making the change, and didn't simply go back.

Step 1: Check whether there are currently open copy orders

Open the OKX App → 【Trade】→ 【Copy Trading Hub】→ 【My Copy Trades】→ 【Current Copy Trades】.

What to do: Check the list to see if there are any open orders belonging to that lead trader.

Verification criteria: Know exactly how many open copy trades you currently have and when they were opened.

Case A: The current copy trade list is empty (no open orders) Then your changed parameters should take effect on the next new order. If the next copy trade still uses the old parameters, the problem is not "existing positions affecting it"; proceed to Step 2.

Case B: The current copy trade list is not empty (there are open orders) The position size, leverage, and take-profit/stop-loss for these orders were fixed the moment they were opened. The parameters you changed now are only valid for new orders opened afterward. This is a rule explicitly stated by OKX. If you expected that "changing the parameters would immediately adjust the size or leverage of your existing positions", that is not possible—you need to manually close the existing positions and then re-copy.

Step 2: Confirm the modification was saved successfully (the most common reason)

What to do: Re-enter this lead trader's copy settings page and check the currently displayed value of the field you changed.

How to do it:

  • App: Go to 【My Copy Trades】→ tap the lead trader → top right 【Manage】→ enter copy settings

  • Look at the "Per-Order Copy Amount" or "Ratio Copy" value to see if it matches the number you just changed

Verification criteria: If the displayed value matches what you changed, the save was successful. If it still shows the old number, the change wasn't saved—redo it and confirm again.

Step 3: When a new order is triggered, verify that it was indeed a "newly opened" order

What to do: After the lead trader opens a new position, check your 【Current Copy Trades】 list to see what the "per-order investment amount" is for this new order.

How to do it:

  • After the lead trader opens a new order, go to 【My Copy Trades】→ 【Current Copy Trades】→ tap the details of the most recent order

  • Check the "Copy Amount" or "Margin" field

Verification criteria: If the new order's amount is still the old parameter, it means the issue is not the save problem from Step 2 or the "old order impact" from Step 1; continue to Step 4.

Step 4: Check whether the "Maximum Copy Amount" cap has been triggered

What to do: Check your "Maximum Copy Amount" setting.

Why it's important: Many people think "just changing the per-order amount is enough", but they ignore the "Maximum Copy Amount" ceiling.

Specific logic: In OKX's fixed margin mode, once your cumulative total copy amount reaches the "Maximum Copy Amount" cap, the system will automatically stop copying new orders from that lead trader. If you changed the per-order amount but didn't also adjust the Maximum Copy Amount, two things can happen:

  • Case A: The Maximum Copy Amount is already maxed out → new orders won't be copied at all, rather than "being copied with the new parameter"

  • Case B: The Maximum Copy Amount isn't maxed out, but the remaining allowance is less than your newly set per-order amount → the system may copy using the remaining allowance or not copy at all

Verification criteria: Confirm that the "Maximum Copy Amount" value is greater than the "Per-Order Copy Amount", and that the current cumulative total copy amount has not exceeded the cap.

Step 5: Confirm you are using the correct copy mode (Fixed Margin vs. Ratio Copy)

What to do: Check whether you are currently using "Fixed Margin Mode" or "Ratio Copy Mode".

How to do it:

  • Enter the copy settings page and look at the "Copy Mode" section

  • If you are using Fixed Margin Mode, you should have changed the "Per-Order Copy Amount" (a fixed USDT number)

  • If you are using Ratio Copy Mode, you should have changed the "Copy Ratio" (a multiplier), not a fixed amount

Common mistake: Changing a fixed amount field while in Ratio mode (or vice versa)—the change was made but never applied. The system only reads the field corresponding to the active mode.

Verification criteria: Confirm that the parameter you changed matches the copy mode you are currently using.

Step 6 (For Contract Users): If you changed leverage, check whether you also adjusted it separately on the contract trading page

What to do: If you changed the "Leverage Multiple", extra attention is needed.

Platform rule: The leverage settings for copy trading and the contract trading page are linked—if you change leverage in the copy trading settings, you actually need to be redirected to the contract trading page to make the change. This means when you click to modify the leverage field in copy settings, the system takes you to the contract trading page to change it; the change does not take effect immediately just by editing it on the copy settings page.

Verification criteria: Go to the contract trading page and confirm that the leverage multiple for the corresponding trading pair has been changed to your desired value.

Common Reasons for Failure (Based on Real User Feedback)

  1. Changed only the per-order amount, but not the Maximum Copy Amount—new orders were never copied because the allowance was full; users thought "parameters didn't sync", when in fact "copying wasn't triggered".

  2. Went back directly after making changes without hitting save—this seems trivial, but many people habitually just go back.

  3. Changed the fixed amount value while in Ratio Mode—the system completely ignores that value.

  4. The lead trader had already placed orders that day after you changed the parameters—exceeding the daily buy limit (contract copy trading ≤ 500 times per day) causes copy failures, not a parameter issue.

Risk Reminder

  • Manually closing existing copy positions and re-copying will incur additional transaction fees and slippage losses; do not frequently close and reopen positions just to "make the new parameters take effect".

  • When adjusting the Maximum Copy Amount, be careful not to set it too high—if the copied lead trader opens positions frequently, your account margin can be quickly tied up, increasing liquidation risk.

How to Confirm You've Correctly Completed the Operation

After changing the parameters, do not rely on the value displayed on the "Copy Settings" page—that only shows "saved successfully". The real way to verify is: Wait for the lead trader to open a completely new position (not adding to an existing one, but a new directional trade), then go to 【Current Copy Trades】 and check the actual margin/amount of this new order. If the value of this new order matches your change, only then has it truly taken effect.

FAQ

Q: After changing the parameters, can previously opened positions be adjusted? No. The position size, leverage, and take-profit/stop-loss of already opened copy orders are fixed at the time of opening and are not affected by subsequent parameter changes. To adjust them, you can only close manually.

Q: I changed the leverage, but the leverage on the contract trading page didn't change. Why? Copy trading leverage changes need to be completed by jumping to the contract trading page; they are not directly changed within the copy settings. If you only clicked to modify leverage in the copy settings but didn't jump over to confirm, it essentially didn't take effect.

Q: In Ratio Copy Mode, why hasn't my copy amount changed after I adjusted the ratio? Check whether you changed the "Ratio" field while in "Fixed Margin Mode"—the fields in the two modes do not affect each other. First confirm which mode you are currently using.
