Many users believe that clicking “Stop Copy Trading” will automatically close all copy positions — that's a dangerous misunderstanding.

Stopping copy trading only cuts the link for future order copying; existing copy positions will not be automatically closed. Those positions remain in the market, with profits and losses continuing to fluctuate, and you need to handle them manually.

Prerequisites: Know Your Position Status Before Acting

Open the OKX App → [Trade] → [Trading Square] → [My Copy Trading] → [Current Copy Positions].

First, confirm one thing: are there any open copy orders in the list?

  • If the list is empty → you don't have any copy positions to handle, and the stop copy trading action cleanly ends the copy relationship.

  • If the list is not empty → the following steps are for you.

Step 1: Execute “Stop Copy Trading”

What to do: Terminate the copy trading binding with the trader.

How to do it:

  • App: Go to [My Copy Trading] → tap on the trader → top right [Manage] → tap the “Stop Copy Trading” icon → select a reason → submit and confirm.

When is it done: The system shows “Stop Copy Trading successful” and the trader disappears from your “Current Copy Trading” list.

⚠️ After this step, you will no longer copy any new orders from this trader.

Step 2: Handle Existing Positions (Critical)

What to do: Decide how to handle the existing copy positions you hold. You have exactly two options:

Case A: You want to continue holding these positions No action needed. These positions will remain in your [Current Copy Positions] list, with P&L continuing to fluctuate with the market. You will later need to manually close them — whenever you close them, it has nothing to do with whether you are still copying.

Case B: You want to close these positions Find the corresponding position in the [Current Copy Positions] list and tap to close.

Specific entry:

  • [My Copy Trading] → [Current Copy Positions] → tap the position → tap the “Close” button

  • Or go to [Futures Trading] → [Positions] and close the position directly.

Note: In the “Current Copy Trading” details and summary, only one-click market close all is supported; limit orders or partial closing is not supported.

When is it done: [Current Copy Positions] list is empty, or the remaining positions are ones you intend to keep.

Step 3: Confirm Whether the Trader’s Closing Affects You

What to do: Understand a key point — after you stop copy trading, if the trader closes positions, will your positions follow?

The answer depends on whether you have already “stopped copy trading”:

  • If you have successfully stopped copy trading → Any subsequent closing by the trader will not trigger any position changes in your account. The relationship with the trader is cut; their actions are irrelevant to you.

  • If you haven't stopped copy trading → When the trader closes, your corresponding copy positions will automatically follow and close.

When is it done: You clearly know whether you are in “stopped” or “not stopped” status and can judge if positions will be affected by the trader’s actions.

Step 4: Other Scenarios That Can Auto-Close Positions

Even if you stop copy trading, the following situations can still cause your positions to automatically close without your action:

  1. Your take-profit / stop-loss triggers: If you set TP/SL in copy trading settings, they will execute when the price hits the levels.

  2. Your position gets liquidated: Insufficient margin triggers forced liquidation; the system will close the position forcibly.

When is it done: You understand that these two auto-close scenarios still exist and do not disappear just because you “stopped copy trading.”

Common Failure Reasons

  1. Assuming that positions were also closed after stopping copy trading and ignoring them — the positions remained open, and losses expanded before they were noticed. This is the most common misunderstanding.

  2. Clicking “Close” in [Current Copy Trading] fails with an error — during extreme market volatility, the market close-all may fail due to limit mechanisms or other anomalies. The system will send email and in-app notifications to manually close.

Risk Reminder

  • After stopping copy trading, your positions remain, meaning you still bear all the risks of those positions — liquidation, funding fees, market fluctuations are all present. Do not relax your attention to the positions just because you “stopped copy trading.”

  • Manual closing generates trading fees, and market orders may cause slippage. For large positions, it is recommended to close in batches or use limit orders (but the “Current Copy Trading” interface only supports market close-all; you need to switch to the futures trading page to place limit orders).

How to Confirm You Have Completed the Operation Correctly

Open [My Copy Trading] → [Current Copy Positions] and check the position status in the list.

  • If you want to clear all positions: the list is empty, and the balance of the corresponding coin in your account shows zero holdings, or you can see closed position records.

  • If you intend to keep holding: the list shows the remaining positions, and there is no longer a “copying” label next to the trader’s name (because you have stopped copy trading).

Finally, confirm: go to [Futures Trading] → [Positions] and check that the position status for the corresponding coin matches what is shown in [Current Copy Positions]. When both sides match, the operation is complete.

FAQ

Q: After stopping copy trading, if the trader closes for a profit, can I still get a share? No. Once you stop copy trading, the copying relationship with the trader is cut. All their subsequent actions (including profit-taking) are irrelevant to you. Your position’s P&L depends solely on when you close and the market price at that time.

Q: I’ve stopped copy trading, but the trader’s positions still appear in my Current Copy Positions list. Why? Because stopping copy trading only cuts future copying, it does not automatically close existing positions. Unless you manually close them, the positions will remain there.
