Why is OKX Auto-Earn Not Generating Earnings?
You've had Auto-Earn enabled for three days, and your 400,000 USDT hasn't shown a cent of earnings—this isn't an isolated case. The reason is very likely the number you entered for the "target minimum annualized rate."

Auto-Earn doesn't guarantee earnings just by turning it on. The key is that your funds must actually be "lent out." The system uses a matching rule of "rate priority first, then time priority." The lower the rate you set, the more likely your funds are to be lent out first. Many people set a rate that's too high, so their funds keep waiting in the queue to be matched and earn nothing.
Prerequisite: First know which type of "Auto-Earn" you are using
OKX offers two types of "Auto-Earn," and the troubleshooting directions differ:
Trading account Auto-Earn (VIP feature): Account assets must be ≥ $100,000. VIP status updates daily at 4:00 (HKT). Supports USDT and USDC. Funds remain in the trading account, and open orders and margin can also earn at the same time.
Strategy Auto-Earn: Opened to all users from October 14, 2025. It automatically deploys idle funds from strategy accounts (spot grid, contract grid, etc.).
First confirm which one you're using, then follow the corresponding steps.
Step 1: Check the "target minimum annualized rate" you set
This is the most common cause, and the only parameter you need to actively adjust.
What to do: Check the "target minimum annualized rate" you entered when turning on Auto-Earn.
How to do it:
Go to the [Earn] page → find the Auto-Earn entry → view the currently set rate value.
When is it done: Confirm what number you have filled in.
Why this parameter determines whether you get earnings: OKX's lending matching rule is "rate priority first, then time priority." This means the lower the rate you set, the higher you rank in the queue and the sooner you get lent out.
Real user feedback: Someone deposited 400,000 USDT and initially had no earnings. After seeking advice in the community, they changed the rate to 1%. Shortly after, earnings started flowing in, and the actual settled annualized return exceeded 5%.
If you set 5%, 8%, or even higher, while the market lending rate is only 3–5%, your funds will keep waiting in line hoping to be lent out at a high price—but no one is willing to pay that much interest. The result: the funds sit there, generating nothing.
Step 2: Check whether your assets meet the "eligible funds" criteria
What to do: Verify that the assets in your account are recognized by the system as "available for earning."
How to do it (separate cases):
Case A – Trading account Auto-Earn (VIP)
Check that the assets are within the currently supported currencies (USDT or USDC).
Check that the total account asset value is ≥ $100,000 (VIP threshold).
Check that the assets have been idle—no trades for 6 consecutive hours. Only "idle assets" are eligible.
Check that you haven't exceeded the main account earn limits: USDT and USDC each 1,000,000.
Case B – Strategy Auto-Earn (all users)
Check that you are using only supported strategies: spot grid, spot Martingale, contract grid, contract Martingale, signal strategy. Iceberg, time-weighted, DCA, and others are not supported yet.
Check that assets are within limits: USDT 1,000,000, USDC 1,000,000.
When is it done: Confirm that your asset type, amount, and account status meet the requirements for the corresponding mode.
Step 3: Confirm whether your funds have been "successfully matched"
Turning on Auto-Earn does not mean your funds are instantly lent out—they must be successfully matched before earnings begin.
What to do: Check the current lending status of your funds.
How to do it:
Go to [Earn] → [Portfolio] or [My Earnings] page.
Look at "Amount Lent" or "Matching Status."
When is it done: If it shows "Lent" or "Matched," your funds are generating earnings. If it shows "Matching" or "Pending," they haven't been lent out yet.
Matching logic:
Even if you set a sufficiently low rate, if there is no lending demand in the market at that moment, or if you are behind others in the queue, your funds will remain "pending matching"—and you will have no earnings.
Step 4: Confirm that earnings are truly "not" being paid
Earnings are not real-time; they are paid out on a fixed schedule.
What to do: Check your earnings records.
How to do it:
Go to [Earn] → [My Earnings] or the [Earn] card.
Look at "Yesterday's Earnings" and "Total Earnings."
When is it done: You can clearly see the earnings figure for the last 24 hours. If it shows 0, your funds indeed produced no earnings.
Distribution rules:
Auto-Earn: Once funds are successfully lent, interest for the previous hour is distributed at the start of each hour.
Earnings calculation: Interest = principal lent × annualized rate / 365 / 24 × 85% (15% goes to the risk reserve).
⚠️ If you've just enabled Auto-Earn or changed the rate less than an hour ago, it's normal to see no earnings yet—wait until the next hour mark.
Common reasons for failure
Target rate set too high—funds keep waiting in queue for a high-rate match, but no one in the market is offering that rate. This is the most common pitfall.
Assets are not "idle"—if you made any trades in the last 6 hours, the assets are not considered "idle" and won't be automatically swept into earning.
Personal limits exceeded—if the deposit amount exceeds the per-currency limit, the excess does not earn.
"Simple Earn allocation" is enabled—if both are turned on, Simple Earn allocation takes priority, and only the remaining funds go to Auto-Earn. You might think funds are in Auto-Earn when they've actually been allocated elsewhere.
Risk Reminder
Once Auto-Earn is activated, it cannot be turned off for 24 hours, and the funds cannot be withdrawn or transferred out during this period. If you may need the money urgently, do not enable it.
Auto-Earn does not guarantee principal. OKX explicitly states that it "does not guarantee you will receive the principal or interest returns shown at the time of subscription."
Past returns do not indicate future returns.
How to confirm you have completed the steps correctly
After adjusting the rate or verifying asset status, wait until the next hour mark (e.g., if it's 14:23 now, wait until 15:00), then check [My Earnings] to see if new earnings records have appeared.
If there are still no earnings after two consecutive hour marks, and you've confirmed the rate is low and assets meet the requirements, then current market lending demand is truly insufficient—your funds are in the queue. You can only wait, or opt to withdraw the funds for other investment products.

FAQ
Q: If I change my rate to 1%, will I lose money? Will my actual return be 1%? No. 1% is the "minimum acceptable rate," not the actual settlement rate. Once matched, the system settles at the current market annualized rate. Whatever the market offers is what you get (it could be far higher than 1%). The rate you set only determines your "queue priority," not your "final return."
Q: Why does my friend get earnings at 5% but I get none at 1%? This could be a timing issue—your friend may have activated Auto-Earn earlier and is ahead of you in the queue. Under the rate-priority rule, if everyone sets the same rate, orders are sorted by time. Or your friend might be using Strategy Auto-Earn (which opens automatically and doesn't require setting a rate), which is different from the mode you are using.
Q: What's the difference between Auto-Earn and Simple Earn? Auto-Earn automatically lends out eligible idle funds without manual subscription; Simple Earn requires actively selecting a product and subscribing. Auto-Earn funds in the trading account remain in the trading account and do not affect trading; Simple Earn funds need to be transferred to the financial account.
