An expired ID does not freeze your account, but it will restrict core functions like trading, depositing, and withdrawing until you submit new identity information and it is approved. OKX officially states: accounts that fail to complete verification within the given deadline will have certain features limited, but your assets remain safe. Full access is restored once verification is complete.
Here is how to find the update entry and what to do:
Step 1: Check if your account has triggered an "additional verification"
OKX must comply with regulations and will periodically review account information, asking users to update. Common reasons for an additional verification request include:
Your ID document has expired or is about to expire
System detects a change in account security settings or triggers a risk control rule
Local regulations require re-verification (for example, service upgrades in Latin America starting April 2026)
What to do:
Log in to the OKX App or website and check the [Notification Center] or the home screen for a pop-up saying "Submit Information" or "Complete Account Verification".
You can also go to [Profile] – [Identity Verification] to see your current verification status. If it says "Update Pending" or "Expired", you need to take action.
Completion standard: You confirm whether an additional verification has been triggered and know the deadline. OKX recommends handling it early to avoid service interruptions.
Common mistake: Some users ignore the reminder until the last moment. Then, on the deadline day, the system may be busy or the documents get rejected, causing temporary restrictions. Start the process as soon as you receive the notice.
Step 2: Enter the verification page and choose "ID expired"
If the reason is an expired ID or personal information update, you must go through the "re-verification" process – you cannot simply edit a field. The system does not allow direct changes to an already verified field; you must complete a full re-verification.
What to do:
App entry: Tap the [Full Features] icon in the top left corner → [Profile and Settings] → [Profile] → [Identity Verification] → [Verify Now].
Web entry: Log in, click your avatar in the top right corner → [Verification] or [Account & Security] → [Identity Verification] → click [Modify Verification].
Once in, the system will ask for the reason for the change. For an expired ID, select "ID expired" or "My ID document has expired".
Follow the instructions and upload your new, valid ID document (national ID or passport). The document must show your name, date of birth, issue date, and expiry date. It must have all four corners visible, no reflections, and clear text.
Complete the face recognition (liveness check) with no obstructions to your face.
Risk note: The document you upload must not be expired. If the ID itself is already invalid, it will be rejected. Also, OKX enforces strict consistency for identity information. If the details on your new document differ from what's on file (for example, a name change without supporting proof), it will trigger a manual review, and processing will take longer.
Completion standard: You have submitted the update request and received a system confirmation or an "Under Review" notice.
Step 3: Review timeline and account status after submission
What to do: After submission, the review team usually completes the process within 24 hours. Watch for notifications in your account message center.
Approved: All account functions are fully restored. No further action is needed.
Rejected: Check the reason for rejection. Often it is unclear images, mismatched information, or formatting issues with the document. Fix the issue and resubmit.
Account status explanation: According to official information, if you do not complete verification by the deadline:
Your account will not be closed, and your assets remain completely safe.
Some features will be restricted, such as trading, deposits, and withdrawals, until verification is complete.
During the restriction period, you can still log in and withdraw your funds (withdrawals remain possible).
How to check if the update was successful
After your application is submitted, verify the status by following these steps:
Check the Notification Center: Look for a notice saying "Under Review" or "Approved/Rejected".
Go back to Identity Verification: See if the status has changed from "Pending Review" to "Verified" or "Verified (valid until XXXX)".
Try a trade: Place a small test trade to confirm that functions are restored.
Next steps: It is recommended to update your information 2–3 months before your ID expires, so you don't get stuck in a verification window that disrupts trading. If you haven't received any feedback after more than seven working days, contact OKX online support and provide your ticket number to check the progress.
