Short answer: beginners should start with "Simple Mode." This is OKX's default setting for new users. Do not overthink it. Just start using it first.

Go to the trading page and find "Account Mode" or the "Simple" entry. In this mode, the interface is very clean. You only deal with spot buying and selling. There is no leverage, no futures, and no margin trading or other complicated things. Use it to go through the full flow of "buy coins, hold coins, sell coins." Get the most basic trading experience working first.

When you want to try futures or leverage, the system will ask you to pass a knowledge test before you can switch to "Spot and Futures Mode." This test is not meant to block you. It is a risk reminder. It makes sure you know what leverage multiples mean and at what margin rate your position will be liquidated. Only then does it let you in.

Why is this path recommended? Because the cost of mistakes for beginners is too high. In Simple Mode, the most you can lose is the money you used to buy coins. Once you turn on leverage, a liquidation can wipe out the money in your account in one wave. Let "doing the right steps" come before "understanding why." First, use Simple Mode to get the process working. Then slowly learn the logic behind it.

How to check you did it right: go to the OKX trading page and look at "Settings - Account Mode." If it shows "Simple" or "Simple Mode," you are where a beginner should be. Do not change it.
