How to Restore an Old Binance.US Account After Moving to a Supported State

After moving to a supported state, your old account is not automatically restored. Binance.US will not reopen your account just because you updated your address. You need to actively initiate the recovery process, and whether it succeeds depends on the specific reason your old account was restricted in the first place. If the only reason for the restriction was "living in an unsupported state," updating your personal information and completing verification after moving to a supported state is the main path to recovery. However, if your old account also has other issues such as a negative balance, failed identity verification, or fraud flags, changing your address alone will not solve the problem. You need to resolve those underlying obstacles first.

First, confirm two things: Is your new address supported, and why was your old account restricted?

Before you start, take a few minutes to clarify these two points to avoid going down the wrong path.

Is your new address within Binance.US's service area? The list of supported states on Binance.US changes with regulatory status, so you cannot rely on assumptions. New York, North Carolina, and North Dakota are currently not on the supported list. Alaska and American Samoa are also not supported for registration and verification. Additionally, there is a category of "crypto-only states," such as Kansas and Wisconsin, where services are available but USD functions are limited. You cannot deposit or withdraw USD or link a bank account; you can only use cryptocurrency for deposits and trading. If you move to one of these states, your account can be restored, but your expectations for available features need to be adjusted.

The reason your old account was restricted. The official Binance.US help page lists common reasons for account suspension, including outstanding negative balances, fraud alerts, living in an unsupported state, and identity verification failure. If your account was restricted because your address was in an unsupported state, updating your information and verifying after moving to a supported state is the officially stated recovery path. If you voluntarily deactivated your account yourself, the recovery process uses "Self-Serve Account Reactivation," which is a different entry point from recovery after being restricted due to address issues. If you are unsure of the reason, the official recommendation is to contact customer support to confirm, rather than repeatedly trying on your own.

Recovery path after being restricted due to address issues

This path applies when your account has no other unresolved issues, and the restriction was solely due to your old address being outside the service area.

Step 1: Log in to your old account through a web browser. The self-serve reactivation process currently only supports web browsers; it cannot be completed in the mobile app. If you can still log in, go to your account settings and find the personal information or address section, then update your residential address to your current address in a supported state. Address changes usually require proof of address, so have a document or bill showing your new address ready.

Step 2: Initiate reactivation and complete identity verification. After logging in, if your account is in a suspended state, the page will guide you to the reactivation process. The official process is: on the reactivation page, click to start verification, scan the QR code with your phone to transfer the process to your mobile device, and then follow the prompts to photograph a government-issued ID. The key here is that the address on your ID must match the new address you entered; otherwise, verification may fail due to an address mismatch. Binance.US verification requirements explicitly state that the ID must be from a supported state.

Step 3: Wait for system review and do not close the page. After submission, the system will review your information. The official reminder is not to close or refresh the page during this time, as it may delay verification. Once the review is complete, the page will show the status. If successful, click to proceed to login. If it fails, choose to contact customer support for further assistance, rather than resubmitting or opening a new account.

An important mistake to avoid: Do not create a new account. Binance.US rules state that a user can only have one account. If your old account still exists (even in a suspended state), creating a duplicate account will be rejected, and a new account will not bypass the restrictions on the old one. Additionally, one Social Security Number (SSN) can only be linked to one account. Until the old account is completely removed, you cannot open a new account with the same SSN.

If your old account has additional issues

If your address has changed, but the root cause of the account suspension involves more than one issue, the recovery process will get stuck. Assess the actual status of your old account:

Outstanding negative balance. A negative balance may come from a chargeback or other debts. The official handling method is to cover the owed amount by depositing cryptocurrency or using a third-party service to purchase USDT. Once the balance is cleared, the restriction will be automatically lifted. Until the negative balance is resolved, simply updating your address will not restore your account.

Identity verification previously failed. If your account was suspended shortly after creation due to verification issues, you need to follow the instructions in the email from Binance.US to supplement materials or contact customer support. Moving to a new state will not automatically fix a failed verification record; you need to go through the verification or document submission process again.

Account dormant due to long-term inactivity. The official page mentions that accounts may enter a dormant state after prolonged inactivity, and three years of inactivity may result in the balance being transferred as unclaimed property according to state law. If your old account has been idle for a long time, before attempting recovery, first confirm whether the account status is already beyond the scope of self-service recovery. You can see the account status by logging in once, which is more reliable than any guess.

Uncertain about the reason. Contact Binance.US customer support. Official support channels include the help icon in the bottom right corner of the web page to access the support center, and phone at +1 (844) 900-1450 (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM Eastern Time). Note that Binance.US officially states they will not proactively call or message you to ask for passwords, verification codes, or request transfers. Any unsolicited contact claiming to be customer support could be phishing.

What to verify after recovery

Being able to log in to your account does not mean all features are working as expected. Check according to the type of state your new address is in:

If your new address is in a fully supported state, log in and confirm whether USD deposit and withdrawal functions are working properly. Binance.US USD services have been paused and restored in some states in the past. Whether your account has these features enabled should be based on the actual actionable options shown in your account, not inferred from general descriptions on the help page.

If your new address is in a crypto-only state (such as Kansas or Wisconsin), the unavailability of USD deposits, withdrawals, and bank linking is an expected limitation, not a recovery failure. You need to use cryptocurrency deposits to activate trading functions, rather than repeatedly trying to link a bank account or contacting customer support to request "USD access."

In either case, after recovery, perform a small test transaction to verify functionality before transferring large amounts of assets. Account recovery is just the entry point; feature availability is the true completion standard.
