What Account Recovery Information Should You Save After Completing Binance Registration?
After completing Binance registration, you must save three types of core recovery information: login credentials (email/phone number), the backup key for two-factor authentication (2FA), and the recovery password and key shards of the Web3 wallet. Losing any of these may result in inability to log in or recover assets, and some information cannot be recovered for you by the platform.

1. Save Login Credentials (Email, Phone Number, and Password)
What to do: Confirm that the email and phone number you used to register are accessible, and record your login password.
How to do it:
-
Make sure your registration email can receive messages normally — if you forget the email password or the email service is deactivated, you will not receive the reset link when resetting your password.
-
Make sure the bound phone number is still in use — if the number is deactivated, you will not be able to receive SMS verification codes, which directly blocks the password reset process-1.
-
Use a strong login password (including uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters) and store it separately in a secure location. Do not use the same password as your email account.
Completion criteria: You can confirm that both your email and phone number can receive verification messages normally, and the password has an independent backup.
If the original registration email or phone number is no longer available, the only way to recover the account is through a manual KYC appeal, which may take a considerable amount of time-1.
2. Back Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Key
What to do: When setting up Google Authenticator or another 2FA method, save the backup key provided by the system.
How to do it:
-
When binding 2FA, Binance generates a backup key (usually a 16- or 32-character combination of uppercase letters and numbers)-1.
-
Write this key on paper or save it in an offline secure location. Do not screenshot it and save it in your phone's photo album or in the cloud.
-
If your phone is lost or the authenticator app is uninstalled, you can use this backup key to re-import it into Google Authenticator and restore the ability to generate 6-digit dynamic codes-1.
Completion criteria: The backup key has been transcribed and stored in a secure, non-digital location.
Prerequisites: You have enabled Google Authenticator or Binance Authenticator in the Security Center.
Common failure reasons:
-
Only scanning the QR code when enabling 2FA without separately saving the backup key string — once the QR code expires, the backup key cannot be retrieved.
-
Saving the backup key in a phone memo app or cloud storage, which carries the risk of being stolen by hackers.
Risk warning:
-
2FA is your first line of account defense. If you lose both your phone and the backup key, recovering your account will require a KYC appeal, which can take days or even weeks-1.
-
Consider using a physical security key (such as a Yubikey) as a more advanced alternative.
3. Back Up Web3 Wallet Information
What to do: If you use the Binance Web3 wallet, you need to separately save its recovery password and key shards.
How to do it: Binance Web3 wallet uses Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology and generates three key shards:
-
Shard 1: Held by Binance
-
Shard 2: Stored on your device
-
Shard 3: Encrypted using your recovery password and backed up to cloud storage (iCloud or Google Drive)
At least two shards are required to access the Web3 wallet.
-
Scenario A: Using cloud storage backup — After setting a recovery password, the system automatically uploads the encrypted shard 3 to cloud storage. What you need to save is the recovery password. Binance does not store this password, and it cannot be recovered if lost.
-
Scenario B: Using QR code backup — A QR code containing the recovery information is generated. Print it or save it in an offline secure location, to be used together with the recovery password.
Completion criteria: The recovery password has been recorded separately, and you have confirmed that shard 3 has been successfully backed up to cloud storage or the QR code has been saved.
Common failure reasons:
-
Clearing the device cache causes shard 2 to be lost, and the recovery password for shard 3 has not been backed up — this will result in permanent loss of access to Web3 wallet assets.
-
Storing the recovery password in a phone memo app or cloud storage, which places it in the same location as the encrypted shard 3, defeating the purpose of encryption.
Risk warning:
-
Decentralized wallets differ from exchange accounts: Binance does not store your recovery password. Losing it means permanent loss of access to your assets.
-
Clearing device cache will cause shard 2 to be lost. Always ensure that shard 3 has been fully backed up.

4. Enable Extra Security Measures and Record Them
What to do: Enable the withdrawal address whitelist and anti-phishing code, and record the relevant settings.
How to do it:
-
Withdrawal address whitelist: Enable the whitelist function in "Withdrawal Settings" to only allow withdrawals to added addresses. Once an address is added, no additional saving is needed — the whitelist is bound to your account and takes effect even when you log in from another device.
-
Anti-phishing code: Set a unique 6-character code. Every email sent by Binance will contain this code, which helps you identify official emails and phishing emails. Record this code in case you forget it.
Completion criteria: At least one commonly used address has been added to the whitelist, and the anti-phishing code has been set and recorded.
Next steps: Log in to the Binance app or website now and complete the following three actions in order:
-
In "Security Center", check whether the 2FA backup key has been transcribed (if not, you can rebind and record the new key).
-
If you use the Web3 wallet, go to the "Wallet" settings and confirm that the recovery password has been recorded and stored separately.
-
Set the anti-phishing code in "Security Center".
Among the above information, the 2FA backup key and Web3 wallet recovery password cannot be recovered for you by the platform. Be sure to save them offline.
