You check your order history and notice the fee was not taken from the coin you bought or the USDT you sold. Instead, an extra amount of BNB was deducted. This is not a system bug. You have accidentally turned on the "Use BNB to pay fees" option.

Core Rule: The fee asset depends on whether you are buying or selling
For Binance spot trading, the fee rule is simple: the fee is deducted from the asset you receive.
In simple terms:
Buying: You spend money to buy coins, so you receive coins. The fee is deducted from the coins you buy.
Selling: You sell coins for money, so you receive USDT. The fee is deducted from the USDT you receive.
For example, if you use 60,000 USDT to buy 1 BTC and the fee is 0.001 BTC, that amount is deducted directly from the 1 BTC you bought. You end up with 0.999 BTC. Conversely, if you sell 1 BTC, the fee is deducted from the 60,000 USDT you receive, so 60 USDT is taken.
Why is BNB sometimes deducted?
If you hold BNB in your Binance account and have enabled the "Use BNB to pay fees" feature, the situation is different.
This feature automatically converts the fee into an equivalent amount of BNB and deducts that instead of directly taking the coin or USDT you would otherwise receive. The system calculates the fee based on the current BNB price and deducts the corresponding amount of BNB from your BNB balance.
The benefit of paying fees with BNB is a discount. Spot trading fees get a 25% discount, meaning a 0.1% fee becomes 0.075% when paid with BNB.
How to check which asset was deducted for fees
Go to the spot trading page and open "Order History" or "Trade History".
Find the specific trade and click on details. You will see the "Fee" section showing which asset was deducted and how much.
Risk reminder: Using BNB to pay fees saves money, but only if you have enough BNB in your account. If your balance is insufficient, the system will fall back to deducting fees from the asset you traded. Your order will not fail. Also, exchange fee structures may change, so it is wise to check official announcements regularly.
