Spot Trading: Maker and Taker Fees Are the Same
In the spot market, regular users pay the same maker and taker fee: 0.1%.
For example: you spend 1,000 USDT to buy BTC. Whether you place a maker or taker order, the fee is 1 USDT. Both sides are equal, so in spot trading there is no "maker is cheaper" advantage.
But one key move can save money: use BNB to pay fees. This gives a 25% discount on the 0.1% rate, lowering the actual fee to 0.075%. If your monthly trading volume is high, this discount can save a lot.
Futures Trading: Maker Orders Cost Less Than Half of Taker Orders
The futures market is where maker orders really show their advantage. For USDⓈ-M perpetual futures, regular user fees are:
- Maker: 0.02%
- Taker: 0.05%
That is a 2.5x difference. If you open a position worth 10,000 USDT:
- Maker fee: 10,000 × 0.02% = 2 USDT
- Taker fee: 10,000 × 0.05% = 5 USDT
Just opening a position differs by 3 USDT. If you also close the position, the round-trip difference doubles. So in futures trading, use a limit order instead of a market order whenever possible.
Why Are Maker Orders Cheaper?
Exchanges encourage maker orders because they add depth to the order book. Better liquidity improves the trading experience for everyone. So platforms reward makers with lower fees, while takers pay a little more for the convenience of instant execution.
How to Save the Most on Your First Order
If this is your first trade:
- Spot: Maker and taker fees are the same, so focus on using BNB to pay fees.
- Futures: Try to place limit orders (maker) instead of market orders (taker).
Also, futures trading has a "funding rate" that settles every 8 hours. It is paid between long and short traders, not charged by the platform. If you hold a position overnight, you need to include this in your total cost.

How to Check Your Fees After Trading
After your order is filled, go to [Order History] and check how much fee was charged for that trade. Use the formula above and compare it with the actual amount. If the numbers match, you understand it correctly. If the fee is higher than expected, check whether your order was a maker or taker order.
