Can You Pay the Binance Deposit Recovery Fee Later If Insufficient?

If the deposit recovery fee is insufficient, you cannot pay later. Binance deposit recovery service charges a fixed fee per attempt. The fee must be deducted at the time of the recovery request. There is no option to "pay later". If the balance in your account is not enough to cover the fee, the system will directly prompt you to deposit funds and then proceed — it will not enter a "deferred payment" process.

Here's how to confirm the fee amount and top up your balance.

Step 1: Identify which type of deposit recovery applies

Different types of erroneous deposits have completely different fees and handling procedures. Match your situation first.

Error typeFeeHandling method
Smart Recovery (supported coins)5 USDTAutomated process, click "Retrieve" on the Deposit History page
Unsupported coin/network recoveryVaries; some cases charge 200 USDTManual processing, up to 30 business days
Missing or incorrect Memo/TagNetwork fee only (no extra recovery fee)Manual processing, 2–3 days

How to proceed: Open the Binance App or website, go to the [Deposit History] page, and check if there is a "Retrieve" button next to the incorrect deposit.

Case A: "Retrieve" button is there → This falls under "Smart Recovery", fee fixed at 5 USDT. Clicking the button will prompt deduction; you must have enough USDT balance in your account.

Case B: No such button → This requires manual processing. Submit a ticket, and the fee and timeline will be assessed by customer support based on the specific situation.

Success criteria: Determine whether you are in Case A or B, and know the fee amount.

Prerequisites: Log into your Binance account and have the TxID of the erroneous deposit.

Step 2: Top up your balance when the fee is insufficient, then proceed

Smart Recovery scenario (5 USDT):

  • If your USDT balance is insufficient, clicking "Retrieve" will show "Insufficient balance, please deposit first".

  • Transfer at least 5 USDT to your account (it is recommended to add a little extra to cover the network fee), then click "Retrieve" again. There is no "pay later" option.

Manual recovery scenario (200 USDT or more):

  • After submitting a ticket, customer support will inform you of the specific fee and recoverability. If you agree to proceed, you also need enough balance to cover the deduction.

  • Binance processes about 4,000 recovery requests monthly, successfully recovering approximately 7 million USDT in assets. However, not all cases can be recovered.

Success criteria: Your account's USDT balance is equal to or greater than the required fee; the fee is successfully deducted and you enter the recovery process.

Common reason for failure: Only calculating the "recovery fee" itself while ignoring the on-chain gas fee for the incoming deposit. If the deposit was via the ERC20 network, you need to reserve ETH for gas.

Step 3: Initiate the recovery

Smart Recovery procedure: → Find the deposit on the Deposit History page, click the "Retrieve" button next to it, and the system will handle it automatically.

Manual recovery procedure: → Submit a ticket via the Binance Help Center, providing the following information:

  • Coin name

  • Amount transferred

  • Sender's wallet address

  • Binance wallet address

  • Transaction ID (TxID)

Completion indicator: The recovery request has been submitted and you have a ticket number or record.

How to confirm after completing these steps

After submission, check the ticket status or your deposit history. For Smart Recovery, funds are usually returned to the original sending address within 7–14 business days. Manual recovery can take up to 30 business days.

Next step: After the assets are recovered, be sure to redeposit to Binance using the correct network. Before depositing, verify three things: whether the coin is supported, whether the network is supported, and whether a Memo is required.
