Being abroad doesn't usually trigger risk control by itself. The problem is that your login location and account registration country no longer match, which sets off the platform's abnormal login detection. You don't need "travel proof." You need a valid Proof of Address (POA) to update your residential information on OKX.
Make sure you need a "Proof of Address," not "travel proof"
When you log in or trade from a country different from where you registered, the system thinks your account might be at higher risk. It will usually ask you to prove your current residential address to verify your identity. This is a standard account security and compliance step.
Key difference: You must provide proof of your residential address, not a hotel booking, flight ticket, or other travel documents. The platform needs to check "where you live now," not "where you are visiting."
Official note: To prevent fraud and other illegal activities, OKX checks your country or region of residence as required by regulations.
Completion checkpoint: You understand that you need a valid residential address document that meets the requirements.
Get a proper proof of address document
OKX has clear rules for address proof. Check them carefully.
What to do: Get one document that shows both your full name and your current residential address clearly.
How to do it: According to OKX's official guide, these types of documents are usually accepted:
Bank statement: Issued within the last 3 months. It must show your name and full home address.
Utility bill: Like electricity, gas, landline phone, or broadband internet (note: mobile phone bills are usually not accepted).
Valid rental agreement: The remaining lease period must be at least 2 months from the signing date.
Tax document: Tax bill, tax statement, or tax return.
Payslip: From the last 3 months, containing your home address.
Government-issued letter: An official letter with your current address.
Important things to remember:
Freshness: The document must have been issued within the last 3 months.
Information must match: The name on the document must match the legal name you used for KYC verification. The address must match the residential information you submit to the platform.
File format: You can upload a clear photo of a paper document or an original digital PDF. Screenshots or photos of a screen are usually not accepted.
Special cases: If you live with your parents or spouse, you can also submit a formal letter from the homeowner or main tenant as extra proof.
Submit your proof of address and follow up
Once you have the right document, submit it through the correct channel and keep an eye on the result.
What to do: Find the submission page on the OKX platform and upload your proof of address file.
How to do it:
Find the entry: Usually, the path is: Open the OKX App -> tap the profile icon in the upper left corner -> [Personal Center] -> [Identity Verification] (or "Verification") page -> tap the [Verify now] button. The system might also send you a guide link by email or in-app message.
Submit for review: Upload your file in the marked area, double-check all details, then submit.
Track the status: Wait for the review after you submit. If your document doesn't meet the rules, it may be rejected and you'll be asked to fix the issues. OKX's risk control system does have a fairly high false-positive rate; the team is working to improve it. If your submission gets rejected multiple times, contact official customer support.
Common reasons for failure: Document older than 3 months, name or address doesn't match your registration details, using a mobile phone bill or an unaccepted screenshot format, or a blurry photo.
Under the Travel Rule (international transfer rule), when you make a crypto transfer in a regulated area, the platform may ask you for extra details like the receiver's name and address type (private wallet or exchange). If you deposit money into OKX from abroad, the same "name mismatch" problem can also delay the verification.
How to confirm it's done: After you submit the proof of address, go to the [Identity Verification] page and check the status. If it changes from "Pending" to "Verified" or "Advanced Verification," the check is complete and your account limits will usually be lifted.
Next step: If you can't provide a qualified proof of residence right now, or if your file keeps getting rejected, use the [Online Chat] inside the OKX App to contact customer service directly. Explain that you are currently abroad. The support team can offer a custom solution for your special case. OKX also suggests that if you are a freelancer or have an unusual source of income, you can honestly explain your situation and add proof of where your funds come from—for example, by showing a wallet screenshot, private key signing, or similar proof.
