Changed your email and suddenly can't withdraw? Don't panic. It's not a problem with your account. It's OKX's security system kicking in automatically — after changing your email, you cannot withdraw crypto or sell via C2C for 24 hours. This article explains where this rule comes from, what other limits may stack on top, and how to tell exactly what is blocking you.

Rule 1: Changing verification methods triggers a 24-hour security freeze

OKX official rule: After changing your phone number, Google Authenticator, or email, withdrawals are blocked for 24 hours.

This limit prevents hackers from changing your verification method and instantly moving your funds. The timer starts the moment your email change is completed, and the restriction lifts automatically after 24 hours. You don't need to contact support.

Exception: If you are binding security information for the first time (for example, setting your email or phone number for the first time), you can withdraw immediately without waiting 24 hours.

Rule 2: You may have separately enabled "large withdrawal protection"

Besides the hard freeze triggered by changing your email, OKX has another independent withdrawal limit feature — large withdrawal protection.

This feature lets you actively set a 24-hour cumulative withdrawal cap (between 10,000 and 10,000,000 USD). Once your total withdrawals across on-chain crypto, C2C selling, API withdrawals, and other channels reach this threshold, the next withdrawal requires face verification to continue.

Key difference:

Limit typeTrigger conditionHow to remove
24-hour limit after changing emailChanging security settingsWait 24 hours for automatic removal
Large withdrawal protectionActively set (or threshold reached)Pass face verification, or wait 24 hours for the quota to reset

Note: These two limits work independently. If you changed your email and large withdrawal protection is also triggered, there may be two reasons why you can't withdraw — check them separately.

Common failure reasons: Why can't you withdraw after 24 hours?

Reason 1: The time was calculated incorrectly The 24 hours start from the moment you successfully change your email. If you submitted the request and waited a few hours for verification, that completion time is the starting point.

Reason 2: Large withdrawal protection was triggered Check "Security Center" → "Large withdrawal protection" to see if you set a threshold and whether today's total withdrawals have exceeded it. If so, the next withdrawal requires face verification.

Reason 3: New address lock If you enabled "new withdrawal address lock," withdrawals to newly added whitelist addresses also have a 24-hour limit. But this can be turned off manually (in "Address Book" → "Address Settings").

Risk reminder: During the 24 hours after changing your email, you can't withdraw, but it does not affect normal trading. Also, if you receive a push notification that "large withdrawal protection" was enabled or changed but you didn't do it, your account may be compromised. Reset your password or freeze your account immediately.

How to check your remaining restriction time

Want to know how much longer your restriction lasts? Go to the withdrawal page and try: after selecting the coin and address, if the system says "frozen for security reasons" and shows the remaining time, that's how long you need to wait. If it says "24-hour limit exceeded," you need face verification or wait for the quota to reset. The two messages are different — don't mix them up.
