When you open the OKX Web3 wallet and find that the address connected in a DApp is not the one you want, you may instinctively click "Disconnect" repeatedly on the DApp page.

But you do not need to do that. Simply switch the address in your OKX wallet, then refresh the DApp and it will follow. The core logic is simple: the DApp only reads the address that your wallet currently exposes. It does not have permission to switch it.

Case A: You are using the OKX Web3 Wallet App (Mobile)

Switch to the wallet address you want inside the wallet app.

In the OKX Web3 wallet, one seed phrase can derive multiple addresses. You can switch addresses from the home page:

  1. Open the OKX Web3 Wallet app and go to the home page.

  2. Look at the top of the page where the current wallet name and address are shown. Tap that area or the arrow next to it. A list of all addresses under your current wallet will expand. Different wallet names correspond to different addresses.

  3. Tap the address you want to use. The page will refresh automatically, and the new address will appear at the top of the home page.

Done when: the top of the wallet home page shows the new address you selected.

After switching, go back to the DApp page that was connected to the wrong address and refresh the page. If you are using the in-app browser, pull down to refresh. The DApp will automatically read the latest address exposed by the wallet.

Case B: You are using the OKX Web3 Wallet Browser Extension (Desktop)

Switch the wallet currently in use through the extension.

Steps:

  1. Click the OKX wallet extension icon in the upper right corner of your browser. The extension window will open.

  2. At the top of the extension window, click the current wallet name or address area. A dropdown list will expand.

  3. Select the wallet you want from the list. If it is not listed, you have not imported that wallet yet. Import it first with the seed phrase or private key.

  4. After clicking it, the top of the extension window will update to the new address.

Done when: the top of the extension window shows the new address.

After switching, go back to the DApp page and press F5 to refresh, or click the browser refresh button. The DApp will automatically reconnect and read the new address.

Special case: X Layer network XKO address switching

If you are using OKX's own X Layer network, there is an extra address format. X Layer supports two address formats: regular 0x-prefix EVM addresses and special XKO-prefix addresses.

When connecting to DApps, the system still automatically uses the 0x-prefix EVM address. This means even if you set the default displayed address to XKO format, DApps will still use the 0x address.

If you want to switch the default displayed address for X Layer (this only affects the address format shown when receiving funds, not the address used for DApp connections), the paths are:

  • Option 1: On the wallet home page, select the coin and network (X Layer). In the receiving address bar, click "Switch common address" and choose XKO or 0x prefix.

  • Option 2: On the wallet home page, click "Receive", select the coin and network (X Layer), then in the receiving address bar click "Switch common address" and choose XKO or 0x prefix.

Troubleshooting: DApp still shows the old address after switching?

Common cause 1: DApp cached the old address Some DApps do not automatically refresh the connection status after you switch wallets. Force refresh the page (press F5 on PC, pull down on mobile). If that does not work, click "Disconnect" in the DApp and reconnect. The wallet authorization window will show the new address. Confirm it.

Common cause 2: Multiple wallet extensions conflict If you have multiple wallet extensions installed in your browser, such as OKX Wallet and MetaMask, the DApp may be "hijacked" by another wallet. In the browser extension manager, temporarily disable the other wallet extensions and keep only OKX Wallet, then try again.

Common cause 3: Network mismatch The address you switched to may not be displayed by some DApps if the wallet's current network is different from the chain required by the DApp. First manually switch the wallet to the network the DApp uses. For example, if the DApp is on Polygon, switch the wallet network to Polygon. Then refresh the DApp page.

Common cause 4: Default wallet setting is on If the extension setting "Set as default wallet" is enabled, the OKX Wallet will be prioritized every time you connect to a DApp. If you want to switch freely among multiple wallets, go to the extension settings and turn off this option.

Risk reminder: Switching an address does not involve transferring funds and does not cost gas. However, if you have approved a token allowance in a DApp, that allowance will not follow you to the new address. The new address needs to be approved again before you can trade or stake. Also, switching networks will not cause asset loss. Assets are always stored in the wallet address, but tokens on different chains can only be seen under the corresponding network.

How to verify the switch worked

After switching and refreshing the DApp, check these two things:

  1. Check whether the shortened address shown in the top right of the DApp page or near the connect button matches the first few characters of the new address in your wallet.

  2. If the DApp has "My Assets" or a personal center, check whether the balance matches the balance in the new address.

If both match, the switch is complete. If it still does not show, open the extension settings and go to "Manage" - "Disconnect all" to clear all DApp connection records, then reconnect once more.
