When the price moves outside the grid range you set, the bot stops trading outside that range, but it does not automatically stop. It simply waits for the price to return, or in some cases uses the moving grid feature to "chase" the price.

This article helps you understand what really happens after the OKX grid price breaks out of the range, and when you can wait for recovery or need to act manually.
Standard grid mode: stops outside range and waits for price to return
For spot grid, the strategy logic is: when the market price is below the set "lowest price" or above the "highest price", the strategy no longer places new orders, but the bot itself stays running.
Price rises above the upper limit: The bot still holds spot positions, but it will not place new sell orders. When the price falls back into the range, it automatically resumes placing orders.
Price drops below the lower limit: Likewise, the bot no longer executes new buy orders. Filled positions remain. When the price rises back into the range, it reactivates.
High risk warning: If the price keeps moving in one direction and does not return to the range, the positions held may suffer floating losses and may even face forced liquidation. For futures grid, the situation is more serious — when price leaves the range, the program stops trading. If the one-sided move continues and leverage is used, losses can grow quickly.
Moving grid feature: the grid follows the price
OKX spot grid supports "grid moves up with price" and "grid moves down with price" features.
Move up: After price breaks above the upper limit, the system automatically cancels the buy order at the lowest grid and creates a new grid above the highest grid, shifting the entire range upward. It is like the grid "chases" the rising market.
Move down: After price breaks below the lower limit, the grid expands a new range below the lower limit. However, it needs to draw extra funds from the main account to support new orders. If the balance is insufficient, the expansion will fail.
Three ways to handle price outside the range
If you did not turn on the moving grid and the price has moved out, you can choose one of three options:
Wait for price to return: As long as the trend is not one-sided forever, price will eventually come back, and the bot will automatically resume. This suits ranging markets.
Adjust grid parameters: OKX allows you to change the price range and number of grids while the strategy is running. Expand the range to cover the current price, and the bot will continue working after the adjustment.
Stop the strategy: If you believe a trend has formed and price will not return soon, stop it directly. After take-profit or stop-loss is triggered, it will also stop automatically and close positions.

How to check grid strategy running status
Open the strategy details page to see the current status:
Running (no outside-range halt triggered): Trading normally within the range.
Running (price has moved out of range): The bot status shows normal, but there are no active pending orders. It is waiting for the price to return, or it has already moved via the moving grid.
Stopped: Manually stopped or triggered by take-profit/stop-loss. All pending orders are canceled and assets return to the trading account.
