You can add funds while a grid bot is running. Many people consider this when a grid is in floating loss or when they expect a move and want to increase position size. OKX spot grid and futures grid both support adding funds while a strategy is running.

The added funds are not all directly turned into "available funds" for placing orders. The system first sets aside a risk-control reserve.
Goal
Understand the rules for adding funds to an OKX grid, how it affects existing orders, and the rules for withdrawing funds after adding.
Key Concepts
For both spot grid and futures grid, after you add funds, the system combines your new funds with the strategy's existing assets to strengthen the position against market fluctuations.
After adding funds, the actual order size changes. Note that this does not affect your existing profit, but it affects the position size of future trades, so both gains and losses can be amplified.
Specific Steps
Step 1: Confirm where and how to add funds. The common path is to find the running grid strategy, click [More] → [Add Funds]. In a futures grid, adding funds directly increases the margin.
Case A: Spot grid
Entry path: [Strategies] → select the running grid → [More] → [Add Funds]
Takes effect immediately: The added funds are immediately used for new pending orders. If the strategy is running, the new funds will soon appear in the order book as pending orders.
Case B: Futures grid
Entry path: [Strategies] → select the running grid → [Adjust Margin] or [Add Funds].
Risk-control reserve: The system automatically reserves part of the added funds as an extra risk buffer to reduce liquidation risk. Only the remaining part is used for trading.
Order updates are not synchronized: After adding funds, the order update mechanism is different from spot grid.
Unfilled orders: The order amount is immediately updated to a new, larger size.
Ongoing grid cycle: If the current "buy low, sell high" cycle has already started (for example, you just bought and are waiting to sell), the sell order amount for this round will not change. The new size takes effect after this round finishes and the next round begins.
Step 2: Check status after adding funds. Go to the strategy details page and confirm two things:
Margin balance: Check whether the number has increased.
Liquidation price: Check whether it has moved in a safer direction (down for long positions, up for short positions).
Risk Warning for Adding Funds
Adding funds essentially adds leverage and increases position size. With leverage, both gains and losses are magnified in absolute terms. Many people add margin when the market falls to prevent liquidation. This idea is reasonable, but you must understand that if the market keeps moving against you, your loss will also be larger.
Common Reasons Why Adding Funds May Not Work as Expected
No increase in pending orders after adding funds (futures grid): This may happen because the added funds were used to top up the margin for the current position, to handle floating loss. The system needs to stabilize the current position first to prevent liquidation, so the new funds are not immediately used to add new pending orders.
Yellow pending-order mark: This usually means the grid level's order cannot be placed normally because of "insufficient available margin." When a yellow mark appears, you usually need to add margin.

Checklist After the Operation
Go to the strategy details page and confirm the following:
Investment amount / total margin: It should be larger than before by the amount you just added.
Unfilled orders: In the order book, check whether the price and quantity of unfilled orders match the new fund size. Unfilled orders for both spot grid and futures grid update immediately.
Liquidation price: Check whether it has moved away from the current price as expected.
