OKX Copy Trading Orders Keep Failing? Check Your Amount and Position Limits

If your OKX copy trading orders keep failing, first check if your account balance is enough to cover the copy order, then check if the order amount is below the platform's minimum. These are the two most common reasons for copy trading failure. Check these before exploring other factors.

Step 1: Check Available Balance in Your Copy Trading Account

Each copy order requires enough USDT balance in your trading account to cover the margin.

  • How: Go to Assets – Trading Account and check your current available USDT balance. Compare it with your set 'single copy amount' (in fixed amount mode) or the amount calculated proportionally for this copy trade.

  • Criteria: Available balance ≥ required amount for this copy order. If not enough, transfer or deposit funds. Note: After adding funds, previously failed orders will not be automatically re-copied; you must wait for the lead trader's next opening.

Step 2: Check If Single Copy Amount Is Below Minimum Order Size

Different trading pairs have different minimum order sizes. If your single copy amount is below the minimum, the order will fail directly.

  • How: On OKX's futures or spot trading rules page, check the minimum order quantity (notional value) for the current trading pair. Then compare it to your copy amount:

    • Fixed amount mode: Directly check your set 'single copy amount'.

    • Proportional copy mode: Copy amount = Lead trader's order value × your set copy multiplier. If the result is lower than the minimum order size, it will fail.

  • Criteria: Copy amount ≥ minimum order size for that trading pair. If not enough, increase the single copy amount or copy multiplier.

Step 3: Check If You've Hit the 'Maximum Copy Amount' Cap

If you've set a 'maximum copy amount', the system will pause new copy orders once the total margin used by all current positions reaches this cap.

  • How: In your copy settings, check the 'maximum copy amount' you set. Then go to Current Positions and calculate the total margin used by all your copy positions.

  • Criteria: Total margin used < Maximum copy amount. If it's already full, either wait for existing positions to close to free up space, or increase the maximum copy amount.

Risk reminder: In fixed amount mode, 'Maximum copy amount / single copy amount' equals the maximum number of concurrent copy positions you can hold. If the lead trader opens more positions than this number, subsequent orders will not be copied and will not be re-triggered later. It's strongly recommended to calculate this number in advance and ensure it's greater than the trader's number of position layers.

Other Possible Reasons (Check After Exhausting the Above)

  • Price deviation protection triggered: If the opening price difference between you and the lead trader exceeds 0.5%, the system will cancel the copy order to prevent following at a bad price.

  • Lead trader limits: If the lead trader reaches the daily copy order limit (5,000 for futures / 500 for spot), the total position limit, or the lead trader's USDT balance falls below 500 USDT, copy orders will fail.

  • Order type is IOC: If the copy order uses an IOC (Immediate-or-Cancel) order, insufficient market depth may cause the unfilled portion to be canceled. After several retries, if still not filled, the order will fail.

After Completing These Steps

  • How to verify: After troubleshooting, wait for the lead trader's next opening signal and check in Copy Details whether the copy trade triggered correctly.

  • Next steps: If it's insufficient balance, transferring funds will not backfill missed orders; you must wait for the next opening. If you've repeatedly failed due to 'below minimum order size,' consider increasing your single copy amount to 1.5-2 times the pair's minimum order size to leave a safe margin.
