Conclusion: Stopping copy trading does not automatically close your positions. After you cancel copy trading, positions that were already opened will not disappear by themselves. You need to handle them manually. OKX official documentation clearly states: after canceling copy trading, existing copy positions will not be closed automatically. You need to close them manually in "My Trades" → "Current Copy Trades".

So the exit process has two steps: first handle your positions, then stop copy trading.
Step 1: Handle existing positions — choose one of three ways
Before stopping copy trading, you need to decide how to deal with these positions.
Option A: Close manually yourself Path: "My Trades" → "Current Copy Trades", find the position, and tap Close. Note that only "one-click market close all" is supported here; you cannot set a custom quantity or price. You can also go to "Contract Trading" → "Positions" and close in batches using limit or market orders, which is more flexible.
Option B: Wait for the trader to close, and your position follows automatically After canceling copy trading, if you do not close your positions, they still follow the trader's actions. When the trader closes, your positions will also be closed automatically. But this means you continue to bear the holding risk until the trader acts.
Option C: Let take-profit/stop-loss trigger automatically If you set take-profit and stop-loss orders in copy trading settings beforehand, your position will close automatically when the price reaches the level, but only if you set them before.
Priority: if you want a clean exit, choose Option A. If you do not want to bear extra market swings, clean up your positions first.
Step 2: Stop copy trading
After handling your positions, stop the copy trading.
What it does: Stops automatic copy trading for that trader.
How to do it: On the app homepage, tap "Trade" → "Trade Square" → "My Trades" → find that trader → tap "Manage" → top-right icon → choose a reason and confirm.
Completion standard: The trader disappears from your "My Traders" list and no new copy trades are created.
Three things to watch out for
Changing copy settings only affects new trades: Adjusting copy amount or ratio only applies to positions opened after the change. Positions already opened are not affected.
Copy trading failures have several common causes: insufficient available funds in your account, price spread exceeding the 0.5% protection line, reaching the maximum copy amount limit, or the trader using up the daily signal limit (daily limit 500 signals). If you find no automatic copy trade, check the "Copy Trade History" to see the failure reason.
If you stop copy trading with positions still open, you bear the risk yourself: The positions remain, and any profit or loss caused by price movement is on you. It no longer has anything to do with the trader.

How to verify after completing the steps
After stopping copy trading, do two things to confirm everything is clean:
Go to "Current Copy Trades": Confirm there are no open positions under that trader.
Go to "Contracts" → "Positions": Confirm there are no leftover copy-trading positions in your contract account. If there are, close them manually.
