Binance Passkey Not Working After Switching Phones? Recovery Steps

After switching phones, a failed passkey does not mean your Binance account is locked. Passkeys are stored in the old device's system keychain (iCloud Keychain or Android Keystore). A new device lacks the corresponding key and cannot pass verification. If you enabled "Require passkey for important actions" before switching phones, the passkey pop-up on the login screen cannot be bypassed. Follow the steps below to re-bind a passkey to your new phone.

Step 1: Skip passkey verification on the login pop-up

[What to do]: When the "Verify with passkey" window appears, do not verify – choose "Cannot use".

[How to do it]: After entering your account credentials on the Binance website or app, the pop-up asks for passkey verification. Tap [Cancel] or [×] on the pop-up, then select [My passkey is not working].

[Completion criteria]: You are taken to the "Enter password to sign in" screen instead of being stuck on the passkey pop-up.

Step 2: Sign in with your password and enter "Reset security verification"

[What to do]: Sign in with your account password, then find the option to reset 2FA.

[How to do it]: After entering the correct account password, the page will show "Security verification required". Select a verification method that is currently unavailable (such as "Email" or "SMS"), then click [Security verification unavailable?] in the prompt that appears.

[Completion criteria]: You successfully land on the [Reset security verification] page and can see your list of bound 2FA devices.

Step 3: Select the unavailable device and submit the reset request

[What to do]: Choose "Passkey" from the list as the 2FA device that needs to be reset.

[How to do it]: On the [Reset security verification] page, tick the checkbox next to "Passkey", then click [Confirm reset]. Read the security warning in the pop-up carefully, then click [Confirm] again.

High-risk warning: After resetting a 2FA device, your withdrawal, C2C sell and payment services will be disabled for 48 hours. This is a security cooling-off period imposed by the exchange to protect your account. It is not a bug and cannot be expedited by customer support.

If you still have other available 2FA devices (e.g., Google Authenticator, email, SMS), the system will ask you to complete verification using those remaining 2FA methods before proceeding. If all your 2FA devices are lost, after submitting the reset request you will need to contact support and submit a video verification; review may take several days.

Step 4: Bind a new passkey on your new phone

[What to do]: After the reset request is approved (usually instant), immediately re-bind your passkey.

[How to do it]: Log into the Binance app → [Account Center] → [Security] → tap [Passkey] → [Add Authenticator]. Follow the prompts to complete binding with face or fingerprint.

[Completion criteria]: The [Security] page shows "Passkey" status as "Enabled".

Common causes of failure

A typical mistake is logging in on a new phone without first disabling the passkey on the old device, which causes a stuck passkey verification pop-up. Another common mistake: assuming a "passkey not working" issue requires a separate manual reset from support, when in reality it goes through the generic "Reset 2FA device" process – no manual contact is needed.

How to verify the operation is complete

Log into the Binance app, go to [Security] – [Passkey], and confirm that it shows "Enabled" and the bound device information matches the phone you are currently using.

Follow-up action recommendations

If your old phone is still usable after switching phones, first log into the Binance app on the old device, manually turn off the "Require passkey for important actions" toggle, then switch to the new phone. If the old phone is already lost or reset, follow the steps above and then wait through the 48-hour withdrawal cool-down period. You can verify your passkey status on the Binance app [Account Center] – [Security] page.
