What to Do When Binance Passkey Fails After Switching to a New Phone

After switching to a new phone, your passkey stops working because passkeys are stored only on the original device and do not automatically sync. You need to go through the "My passkey is not usable" process to reset two‑factor authentication (2FA). Following the reset, withdrawals and certain other functions will be suspended for 48 hours as a standard security measure.

Below is the complete guide that works on your new phone.

Prerequisites

  1. You remember the login password for your Binance account.

  2. Your account has completed identity verification (KYC); you may need to verify your identity during the reset.

  3. The Binance App (version 2.60 or above, requires iOS 16 or Android OS 9 or later) is installed on your new phone, or you can access the Binance official website through a browser.

Step 1: Select "My passkey is not usable" on the login page

  1. Open the Binance App or website, tap Log In, enter your email or phone number, and tap Next.

  2. A passkey verification pop‑up will appear. Tap Cancel, then choose My passkey is not usable.

  3. When prompted, enter your password and tap Next.

Completion Standard: You will see the "Security verification required" page showing available verification methods (e.g., email, phone number).

Step 2: Submit a security verification reset request

  1. On the "Security verification required" page, select the verification method you currently cannot use (such as an old phone number or email) and tap the corresponding Security verification unavailable? link.

  2. You will be taken to the Reset Security Verification page. Check the box next to the unusable 2FA device (this refers to the passkey on your old phone), then tap Confirm Reset.

  3. A pop‑up will explain the consequences of the reset. Read it carefully, then tap Confirm.

Completion Standard: A message confirms that your reset request has been submitted.

Step 3: Complete verification using other available methods

The system will ask you to confirm your identity through a verification method that is still accessible, for example:

  • If your linked email is still usable, enter the email verification code.

  • If your linked phone number is still usable, enter the SMS verification code.

  • If you previously bound a Google Authenticator (GA) and it is still working, enter the GA dynamic code.

Completion Standard: All security verifications are passed and the system indicates that verification is successful.

Step 4: Bind new contact information (if required)

The system may prompt you to enter a new phone number and/or email address to replace the old verification method. Follow the instructions to obtain the verification code and submit.

Completion Standard: The page shows that the reset request has been submitted and is awaiting processing.

Step 5: Wait for the reset to be processed

After submission, the request may be approved instantly, or it may enter a Under Review state. Reviews are handled by a dedicated team and can take up to 48 hours. Once approved, you will be notified via the new verified email.

Completion Standard: You receive an approval notification and can log in with the new methods.

Common reason for rejection

Reset request was denied

If you see "Application not approved," it means the verification method you marked as unusable might actually still be accessible, or some information was entered incorrectly. Double‑check which email/phone/GA you can still access and resubmit.

Risk reminders

  • Restricted functions for 48 hours after reset: Withdrawals, C2C selling, internal transfers, and payment services will be disabled for up to 48 hours. Please wait a full 48 hours before attempting to withdraw or transfer.

  • Turn off the feature before your next phone switch: If you plan to change phones again, it is recommended to turn off the "Require passkey verification" toggle on your old device before migrating to a new one, to avoid repeating this issue.

How to confirm the operation is complete

After a successful reset, log in to Binance with your new phone. If the passkey verification pop‑up no longer appears, or you can pass the verification with the new method, everything is back to normal.

If you set up a new passkey, check the Passkey status in Security Settings to confirm it is bound to the new device. If you need to re‑enable the "Require passkey verification" feature, do so only after you have verified that the new device is stable.
