What to Do If Your OKX Passkey Didn’t Sync to a New Device

Passkeys depend on Apple iCloud or Android Google services for cloud sync. If a passkey doesn't appear automatically on a new device, it means either the cloud account signed in on the new device isn't the one used when the passkey was created, or the sync function itself is not working — and OKX cannot push it to you from the back end.

Here's what to do next, broken down by scenario.

1. Check whether the new device is signed in with the same cloud account

This is the most common cause. A passkey is tied to the Apple ID (iOS) or Google Account (Android) you were using when you created it.

Scenario A: iOS device (iPhone/iPad)

  • What to do: Check which iCloud account is signed in on the new phone.

  • How to do it: Go to Settings → tap your name at the top → look at the email shown under "Apple ID". Compare it with the Apple ID on the old device where the passkey was created (check the old device's Settings).

  • Outcome: If the Apple ID on the two devices is different, that's the reason. Sign out of the current account on the new device, sign in with the Apple ID that was used on the old device, and the passkey will sync over automatically.

Scenario B: Android device

  • What to do: Check which Google Account is signed in on the new phone.

  • How to do it: Go to SettingsGoogle → check the signed-in account. Compare it with the Google Account that was used when the passkey was created on the old device.

  • Outcome: If the accounts are different, switch to the Google Account used on the old device. The passkey will usually sync automatically.

If the cloud account is the same but the passkey still doesn't show up, the cloud sync itself may have a problem (for example, iCloud Keychain isn't turned on), or the OS version may not support it.

2. If the cloud account matches but sync still doesn't work

Scenario A: iOS device

  • What to do: Check whether iCloud Keychain is enabled, and look for the passkey record in the Passwords app.

  • How to do it: Open Settings → tap your name → iCloudPasswords & Keychain, and make sure "Sync this iPhone" is turned on. Then open the built‑in Passwords app and look under the "Passkeys" section for any OKX-related entry.

  • Outcome: If you can see an OKX passkey record, it means it has already synced locally but isn't being picked up by the system. Try restarting your phone, or when logging into OKX choose "Use another device" to trigger verification.

  • OS version requirement: iOS 16.0 or later is needed to use passkeys. Updating to iOS 18 or later is recommended for the best compatibility.

Scenario B: Android device

  • What to do: Update Google Play services, or clear a corrupted passkey cache.

  • How to do it:

    1. Go to phone SettingsApps → find "Google Play services" → choose "Uninstall updates" (this won't delete your data), then update it again from the Google Play Store to the latest version and restart your phone.

    2. If that doesn't work, open Google Password Manager (in your Google Account settings), find any passkey related to "OKX Pay" and delete it, then create a new passkey from inside the OKX app.

  • Outcome: After completing the steps above, try to trigger passkey verification again in the OKX app, or recreate a passkey.

3. Last resort: Authorize using the old device's QR scan

If the passkey can't be migrated through cloud sync and you still have your old device, you can authorise on the new device by scanning a QR code displayed on the old one.

  • What to do: When logging into OKX or verifying a transaction, select "Use another device" or "Other options".

  • How to do it: A QR code will appear on the new device. Use the old device (which already has the passkey) to scan this QR code, then follow the prompts to complete biometric verification (Face ID / fingerprint). This will complete verification on the new device.

  • Outcome: If the new device can complete the authorisation signature or login, the temporary verification was successful. You may want to consider binding a new passkey on the new device afterwards so you don't have to rely on the old device continuously.

Prerequisites

  • The old device (the phone where the passkey was created) is at hand and can be turned on and unlocked normally.

  • You remember the password for the cloud account (Apple ID or Google Account) that was signed in on the old device.

  • iOS devices need to be on iOS 16.0 or later; Android devices need Android 7.0 or later and support Google services.

Common reasons for failure

  • Old device is lost or cannot be powered on: If cloud sync has also failed, you cannot use the old passkey on a new device through normal means. In this case you must contact OKX official support and verify your identity via email to reset the passkey.

  • "No passkey found" prompt: This means you switched devices and the new device doesn't hold the key. Tapping "Use another device" to scan a QR code is the only on‑the‑spot solution.

Risk notice

  • The platform cannot access your passkey: Based on the FIDO protocol, OKX servers do not store your private key, only the public key. The platform cannot recover or modify your passkey for you. All recovery methods depend on the device itself (iCloud / Google) or on a reset process assisted by customer support.

  • Reset is a last resort: If you reset the passkey through customer support, all passkeys on the old device will become invalid. During the reset you'll need to be able to receive emails at your registered email address. After reset, remember to create a new passkey on the new device.

Criteria for confirming the issue is resolved

Once you successfully log in on the new device, or complete one identity verification using the passkey (such as withdrawing funds or changing security settings), the problem is resolved.

If your old device is no longer retrievable and cloud sync has failed, please contact OKX online customer service as soon as possible to apply for a passkey reset. Have your registered email address and phone number ready, as well as the KYC facial verification if required.
