This is one of the clearest red lines in Binance P2P: paying with a third-party account directly violates platform rules. Behind this are risks of money laundering, frozen bank accounts, and even legal trouble. Let's break it all down clearly today.
Step 1: First confirm whether you are dealing with a "third-party payment"
[What to do]: Check whether the payment you received was actually sent by the buyer themselves.
[How to do it]: Open your bank app or payment tool, find the incoming transaction record, and look at the payer's name. Then open the Binance P2P order page and check the other party's verified real name.
Case A (names match exactly): This is a normal transaction. Follow the process and release the crypto.
Case B (names do not match, or the other party says in chat "this is my friend's or colleague's account"): Stop immediately and follow Step 2.
High risk: If you accept a third-party payment and then release crypto, the real account holder may report the unauthorized transaction to the police. Your bank card could be frozen, and you could even be dragged into a money laundering investigation. This is not meant to scare you. This type of case has happened too many times in P2P trading.
Step 2: Standard handling process: three actions, do not skip any
[What to do]: After discovering that the payer's name does not match, immediately follow the three steps below to avoid trouble later.
Action 1: Cancel the order If you have not confirmed the release of crypto yet, cancel the order directly. There is no need to argue with the other party. If the other party has already paid into your account, still do not release the crypto.
Action 2: Refund to the original account If you have already received this third-party payment, you must refund it back to the exact account that sent the money. Do not transfer it to another account.
Why can you not just transfer it back to another account the other party mentions? Because as long as you do not refund to the original account, the flow of funds becomes unclear. If a dispute arises, it will be very hard for you to prove your innocence.
Action 3: Keep screenshots Take screenshots of the order details, chat records, and payment and refund receipts. Keep them as evidence.
[Completion standard]: The order has been cancelled, the money has been refunded to the original account, and key screenshots have been saved.
Step 3: When "third-party payment" is mentioned, there may be more complicated scams
Some scammers play even trickier games. They may use excuses like "system failure", "bank card limit reached", or "cannot transfer today" to trick you into accepting payment from another account. There is even a "triangular fraud" method: two scammers place orders with you at the same time. One pays, and the other receives the crypto. In the end, you get no money and your crypto is gone.
If any of the following happens, stop the trade immediately and submit an appeal:
The other party actively proposes in chat to "pay with another account"
The other party sends a payment screenshot, but the name does not match the verified identity information
The other party uses phrases like "very urgent" or "system is stuck" to pressure you into releasing crypto

When you have already stopped the trade, use the appeal function as a safety net
If you have cancelled the order and refunded to the original account according to the steps above, but the other party is still harassing or threatening you, directly open the Appeal button on the P2P order page. Submit the order number, chat records, and bank account screenshots to Binance customer support. Binance's escrow mechanism will freeze the crypto during the dispute and will not let the other party simply withdraw it.
