Binance Isolated Margin Borrowing Limit Insufficient? How to Check the Borrowable Amount

The isolated margin borrowing limit is not a fixed number assigned to you by the platform. It is calculated in real time based on your collateral, leverage multiple, and tiered limits. When you see "insufficient limit," it usually means either your collateral is not enough or your leverage is not set correctly. Below we explain clearly how the "borrowable amount" is calculated, where to check it, and why it may be insufficient.

Step 1: Understand What Determines the Isolated "Borrowable Amount"

What to do: Understand the formula for calculating the borrowable amount.

In isolated margin mode, the maximum borrowable amount is determined by the following factors: collateral asset, leverage multiple, current debt, and tiered leverage limits.

How to do it: When you open the [Borrow] page and enter an amount, the system calculates and displays the "Max Borrowable" number in real time. Behind this number are two calculation logic sets:

  1. Calculated by collateral and leverage: Maximum borrow amount = MIN { [Net Asset × (Leverage Multiple - 1) - Debt] / Price, Tier Limit - Debt }. In simple terms, the higher the leverage and the more collateral you have, the more you can borrow, but it will not exceed the current tier limit.

  2. Calculated by tiered limits: The more you borrow, the higher the leverage tier, but the available maximum leverage actually decreases. For example, for BTC/USDC isolated margin, after borrowing a certain amount, the maximum leverage may drop from 10x to 5x.

Completion standard: You can clearly explain that the borrowable amount = Collateral × (Leverage Multiple - 1) and the tiered limit, whichever is smaller.

Common failure reason: Many people think "I have money in my account, so I can borrow freely." Isolated margin collateral is locked in the current trading pair. If the USDT in your funding account is not transferred to the isolated margin account, the system does not count it as collateral. So transfer funds to the isolated margin account first, then borrow.

Step 2: Where to Check the "Borrowable Amount"

Case A: Using the Binance App

How to do it: Bottom [Assets] → Switch to the [Margin] tab → Select [Isolated] mode → Tap the [Borrow] button (or the "Borrow/Repay" entry) on the right side of the trading pair. The page will automatically display the "Max Borrowable Amount" for that coin.

Completion standard: You can see the maximum borrowable number calculated by the system.

Case B: Using the Web Platform

How to do it: Top [Assets] → [Margin Account] → Switch to [Isolated] → Find the target trading pair → Click [Borrow]. The system will also display the maximum borrowable amount.

Completion standard: Same as the App, you can see the maximum borrowable number.

Step 3: Most Common Errors When Borrowing and Their Causes

If you are blocked when borrowing, it is most likely one of the following three errors:

Error 1: EXCEED_MAX_BORROWABLE (Exceeds maximum borrowable amount)

This means the borrow amount you entered exceeds the maximum borrowable amount calculated by the system. Go back to the borrow page and change the amount to a number within the "Max Borrowable" limit.

How to do it: Lower the borrow amount, or first transfer more collateral to the isolated margin account or increase the leverage multiple, then recalculate the borrowable amount.

Completion standard: The borrow page no longer shows this error, and clicking [Confirm Borrow] succeeds.

Error 2: INSUFFICIENT_INVENTORY (System inventory insufficient)

The original message is "The system does not have enough asset now". This means the platform's lending pool for this coin is temporarily empty. This cannot be solved by your own operation. Try borrowing at a different time, or choose a coin with better liquidity.

Completion standard: Retry succeeds later, or borrowing another coin succeeds.

Error 3: ASSET_ADMIN_BAN_BORROW (Borrowing suspended for this asset)

This asset currently does not support borrowing. The reason may be a platform risk control adjustment. Check the latest announcement for more information.

Completion standard: Switch to another borrowable asset.

Step 4: Quick Self-Help for Insufficient Limit

How to do it:

  1. Add collateral: Transfer more assets from the funding account to the isolated margin account. The borrowable amount will be recalculated and increased.

  2. Increase leverage multiple: Click the leverage multiple button on the isolated trading page. After increasing it, the system recalculates the borrowable upper limit. Note: Increasing leverage means the liquidation price moves closer to the entry price, and risk increases accordingly.

  3. Check if too many isolated trading pairs are enabled: Regular users can enable up to 15 isolated trading pairs at the same time. If you have reached the limit, disable unused trading pairs and try again.

  4. If you are borrowing a popular small-cap coin: Pay attention to whether the platform has set a "maximum collateral cap" rule for that asset. If the total amount of that asset across the entire platform has reached the cap, all users will be unable to continue transferring in or borrowing that asset.

Completion standard: After taking action, re-enter the borrow page and see that the maximum borrowable number has increased and the borrow succeeds.

Verification After Completion

On the margin account page, the "Borrowed" column for that coin shows the amount you successfully borrowed, and the total assets and net assets of the account are updated at the same time. If the borrowed funds are used to open a position, the position page will show the corresponding position and liquidation price.

FAQ

Q: Does VIP level affect the isolated margin borrowable amount?

A: Yes. The higher the VIP level, the higher the isolated margin borrowable amount. The limits for regular users and VIP1 are different, and VIP users can also enable more isolated trading pairs.

Q: Why could I borrow the same coin yesterday but not today?

A: It may be due to changes in the platform's lending pool inventory, or the asset may have triggered the "maximum collateral cap" rule. When the total amount of a popular coin across the entire network approaches the cap, all users will be restricted from adding new borrowing.

Q: Is the interest for isolated margin borrowing the same as cross margin?

A: The interest rate is shared. Isolated and cross margin borrowing of the same coin use the same interest rate. The difference is that isolated margin debt is locked within that trading pair and does not affect positions in other trading pairs.
