The official marketplace for Telegram usernames is Fragment, and it only accepts assets on the TON blockchain (Gram, formerly Toncoin) for settlement. Binance is a centralized exchange and does not provide a direct payment channel to Fragment. You need to first withdraw your assets from Binance to a wallet that supports TON, then connect that wallet to Fragment to complete bidding and payment.

First, understand the relationship between the two platforms

Fragment is Telegram's official digital asset marketplace, specifically used for buying and selling Telegram usernames, virtual numbers, and other assets. It runs on the TON blockchain. All bidding and transactions are completed on-chain through smart contracts, and the platform charges a flat 5% fee on the final sale amount.

Binance is a centralized exchange that offers buying, selling, and withdrawal services for tokens such as TON. Binance is not involved in any transaction process on Fragment. You cannot place a bid on a username directly within the Binance interface.

The only connection point between the two platforms is this: you can withdraw TON from Binance to your own on-chain wallet, and then use that wallet to bid on Fragment. The key actions in the whole process happen on Fragment and in your wallet. Binance only provides the TON.

The actual path for bidding

To bid on a username on Fragment, you need to complete the following steps in order. If you do not have a Telegram account or a TON wallet yet, you need to take care of those two prerequisites first.

Step 1: Prepare TON on Binance and withdraw it to an on-chain wallet

If your funds are in USDT or another cryptocurrency, you need to convert them to TON on the Binance spot market. Then withdraw the TON to your TON chain wallet address. Available wallets include Tonkeeper, MyTonWallet, and the TON wallet built into Telegram. When withdrawing, make sure the network is set to TON and that you copy the full address correctly.

Step 2: Connect Telegram and your wallet on Fragment

Open the Fragment website, click Connect Telegram to link your Telegram account, then click Connect TON to bind your TON wallet. Fragment itself does not custody your assets. You need to make sure your wallet has enough TON balance on your own.

Step 3: Find the target username and place a bid

Search for the username you want in the Usernames section on Fragment. If that username is currently being auctioned, the page will show the current highest bid, the minimum bid increment, and the auction countdown. When you place a bid, your wallet will pop up a transaction confirmation and deduct the TON you bid.

There is one confusing point here: having your bid accepted does not mean the auction is over. As long as there is time left in the auction, other people can keep raising the bid. Your TON will be locked in the smart contract during the bidding period. If you do not win in the end, it will be returned to your wallet.

Step 4: Delivery after the auction ends

When the auction ends, the highest bidder wins. The winner's TON is deducted, and the username is minted as an NFT into the winner's TON wallet. You need to see this username on Fragment's My Assets page before you can consider it truly yours.

After you receive the NFT username, you still need to bind it to your account, channel, or group in Telegram settings. Only after binding will the username take effect in actual use.

Three things to check before bidding

First, confirm whether you are buying a "collectible username" or a regular username. Usernames with 4 characters exist only as NFTs and cannot be obtained through free registration on Telegram. For names with 5 or more characters, if they have not been registered yet, you can set them for free directly in Telegram. You do not need to pay for them. What is listed for sale on an auction page is usually a name already held by someone else who wants to resell it.

Second, check the remaining auction time. Fragment's initial auction, which turns a regular username into a collectible, is fixed at 7 days. The auction length for reselling a collectible is set by the seller and can be as short as one day or as long as one year. The longer the time, the greater the risk of being outbid.

Third, calculate the total cost. Your actual expense is not just the final sale price. Fragment takes a 5% fee from the sale amount. If you are participating in an initial auction, the seller also needs to pay an additional conversion fee of about 5 GRAM, and this cost may already be reflected in the seller's starting price. In addition, every bid and the final NFT claim on the TON chain involve network fees. Although the amounts are small, they can add up if you bid repeatedly.

What to do if you are outbid or do not win

If your bid is surpassed by someone else, the TON that was locked will be returned to your wallet. The return is automatic and does not require any manual action. However, you need to make sure your wallet has enough TON to cover possible future gas fees, and if you still want to keep bidding, you need to place a new bid.

If you withdraw your bid during the auction, it is usually possible, but rules may differ depending on the auction. In some auctions, after the first bid is placed, the seller can no longer withdraw the sale, but the specific rules for a buyer withdrawing a bid depend on the conditions shown on the Fragment page at the time you bid.

Risks to keep in mind

Do not trade usernames in Telegram private chats. Fragment is the only official channel. All transactions are completed automatically through on-chain smart contracts, with no middlemen and no extra fees. If someone sends you a private message saying they can "transfer a username privately," or asks you to pay TON first and then receive the username, it is a scam. In the official process, the seller will never ask you to pay any fees outside the platform, and the buyer will never be asked to transfer assets to an individual in advance.

Fragment requires KYC. Whether you are buying or selling, you need to complete identity verification. If KYC is not passed, you cannot complete bidding or listing operations. If you are only browsing, KYC is not required, but any actual transaction requires it.

Keep your wallet private key safe. Fragment binds to a non-custodial wallet. The private key and seed phrase are controlled by you alone. If your wallet is lost or your seed phrase is leaked, the NFT username you purchased cannot be recovered, and there is no customer service that can reset it for you.
