Binance ID Expired: What’s Restricted? Update Impact Explained

An expired ID does not freeze your account directly, but it will restrict three key features: spot trading, Easy Buy & Sell, and withdrawals until you update your identity documents and pass verification.

The update process is not complicated either. The key is knowing where to find the option and what you can or cannot do while updating.

Step 1: Find the Update Option

Website: After logging in, click [Profile] in the top right → [Account] → [Verification] to find the "Update ID" option. Or go directly to Binance's "Update Identity Verification" page.

App: On the home screen, tap the top-left profile icon → [Account Info] → [Verification], then tap [Update ID].

If you use a Thai ID and Binance TH, you will also get a dedicated "Update ID Document" notification entry in the bell icon after logging in. Click it to start the process.

Step 2: Choose the Reason and Submit Documents

On the update page, you will be asked to pick a reason. For an expired ID, choose "My ID document has expired or will expire soon".

Then follow the on-screen instructions:

  1. Upload new document: Take clear photos of the front and back of your new ID or passport. Make sure all four corners are visible, lighting is good, and there's no glare.

  2. Facial recognition: Complete the liveness check as prompted. Do not wear hats or sunglasses; keep your face clearly visible.

  3. Confirm details: The system will automatically read the information. Double-check that your name and document number are correct. You can edit them manually if needed.

You can try up to 5 times per day. If all 5 attempts fail, you must wait 24 hours before trying again. After submission, review usually takes a few minutes to a few business days. You'll be notified by email.

Step 3: Understand Your Account Status During the Update

From the moment you submit your update until it is approved, your account will be set to "Withdrawal Only" mode.

This means:

FeatureStatus During Update
Spot Trading❌ Unavailable
Easy Buy & Sell❌ Unavailable
Withdrawals✅ Still allowed (but you must complete the update)
Deposits✅ Still allowed
Cancel orders / Close positions✅ Still allowed (needed for risk control)

If you go past the platform's deadline (for example, 180 days for Binance TH) without updating, the system will stop withdrawals. So don't wait until the last minute.

A common issue: some users try to trade with the old ID while updating and get an error, thinking their account is blocked. It's not blocked — features are just limited. Once the review is done, everything returns to normal.

How to Confirm the Update Completed

After submitting, check these two places:

  1. Email: Look for a confirmation message saying "Under Review" or "Verified".

  2. Verification Center: Go back to the [Verification] page and see if the status changed from "Pending" to "Verified".

It's a good idea to start the update process about 3 months before your ID expires to avoid delays that affect your trading. After verification, all restricted features will automatically return — no manual re-enable needed.
