Why Can't You Directly Buy a Coin with Your Binance Cash Balance?
There are essentially two reasons why your cash balance can't directly buy a certain coin – either the coin doesn't have a trading pair against your fiat currency (like USD), or the coin isn't listed on Binance at all. Cash balances can only be used to buy coins that have a fiat trading pair. To buy any other coin, you'll first need to swap into a stablecoin like USDT as an intermediary.
Step 1: Check If the Coin You Want Supports Direct USD Trading
In the Binance app or website, go to [Trade] – [Spot], then type the coin's code (e.g., "BTC") into the trading pair search box. Look in the search results for trading pairs like BTC/USD or BTC/USDC.
Case A: A USD or USDC pair is shown Your cash balance can buy it directly. Simply place a limit or market order.
Case B: Only USDT or BUSD pairs appear, no USD pair Your cash balance cannot buy it directly. You must first convert USD to USDT, then use USDT to buy the target coin. Move to the next step.
Completion standard: Be able to clearly state whether your target coin has a USD trading pair.
Prerequisite: Your cash balance truly exists (not funds in a futures account). Binance.US currently only supports USD trading pairs for specific coins, such as BTC/USD, ETH/USD, SOL/USD, etc.
Step 2: Convert Cash to USDT, Then Buy the Target Coin
How to do it:
On the Spot trading page, find the USDT/USD or USDC/USD trading pair.
Use your cash balance to buy USDT (or USDC, depending on what your target coin supports).
Then go to the target coin's trading pair page (e.g., XXX/USDT) and buy using USDT.
Completion standard: USDT has been credited and the target coin purchase is successful.
Step 3: Directly Check Whether Binance Has Listed the Coin
If you searched for a USD pair and found none, and also couldn't find XXX/USDT, that means the coin is not listed on Binance at all. No matter how large your cash balance is, you cannot buy it.
How to do it: Search for the coin's name on Binance's official listed coins page to confirm it's on the list.
Completion standard: Confirm the coin is in Binance's supported list and has a corresponding trading pair.
Common reason for failure: The cash balance is sitting in the Funding Wallet, but the system deducts from the Spot Wallet when you try to buy, showing insufficient balance. You need to transfer the cash balance from Funding to Spot Wallet first on the [Assets] page.
Risk warning: Don't fall for "OTC deals" or buying on third-party platforms. Coins not listed on Binance often have extremely poor liquidity, are hard to verify, and make scams highly likely.
Verification After Operation
After buying USDT with your cash balance, you'll see the USDT balance increase under [Assets] – [Spot Wallet]. Then place an order on the target coin's trading page; once the order fills, the target coin balance will update. If it still shows insufficient balance, check whether you've completed the transfer between the Funding Wallet and Spot Wallet.
