Although users in Thailand can register on OKX, note: the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a complaint against OKX in 2025, accusing it of operating in Thailand without the required license. This means that even if you can complete KYC verification, there are certain compliance risks when using OKX services.

Prerequisites

Before you start, confirm these two things:

  1. Hold a valid ID issued by the Thai government. Thai users can typically use Thai National ID Card (preferred), passport, or driver's license.

  2. Understand the regulatory risk: The Thai SEC has initiated criminal proceedings against OKX, alleging violation of the Digital Asset Business Act B.E. 2561. If the charges are upheld, OKX may face fines, trading restrictions, or even a complete ban on operations in Thailand.

OKX services cover over 200 countries and regions globally, and Thailand is an officially supported country. However, due to the Thai SEC's enforcement action, there is uncertainty over the current operating status.

Step 1: Register an account and select country of residence

What to do: Complete registration via the OKX official website or app, and navigate to the identity verification page.

How to do it:

  1. Open the OKX official website or app and click [Sign Up].

  2. Register using your email or mobile number. Thai users can use a +66 mobile number to receive a verification code.

  3. After registration, go to [User Center] - [Identity Verification].

  4. Under [Country/Region of Residence], select "Thailand".

When is it done? You have successfully created an account, reached the identity verification page, and selected Thailand as your country of residence.

The OKX app supports a Thai language interface, which can be switched in settings.

Step 2: Select document type and fill in personal information

What to do: On the verification page, choose the type of document you hold and enter your personal information exactly as it appears on the document.

How to do it:

  1. For document type, select Thai National ID Card (most common and recommended), passport, or driver's license.

  2. Fill in the personal information as prompted:

    • Name: must match exactly the name on your ID document

    • Date of birth: as recorded on the document

    • Document number: enter accurately

    • Residential address: fill in your actual residential address in Thailand

When is it done? All information has been filled in and matches the original document.

OKX automatically matches the corresponding KYC standards based on the country of residence selected at registration; verification requirements differ by region.

Step 3: Upload photos of your ID document

What to do: Follow the on-screen instructions to upload photos of your Thai ID card or passport.

How to do it:

  1. Take photos of your document:

    • Front side: clearly capture the side with your photo and information

    • Back side: if your document has a back side (e.g., Thai ID card), you also need to capture it

  2. Photo requirements:

    • Use the original document for the photo; screenshots, re-photographed copies, or photocopies are not accepted

    • All four corners must be visible, with no cropping of the edges

    • No glare, no obstruction, no watermarks

    • Text and photo must be clearly legible

    • Supported formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG

When is it done? Photos of the front and back of your document have been successfully uploaded.

Thai ID cards have a front and a back; both sides need to be photographed and uploaded as prompted.

Step 4: Complete face verification (liveness detection)

What to do: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete face verification and confirm that you are the person operating the account.

How to do it:

  1. Remove glasses, hats, masks, or any obstructions so that your face is fully visible.

  2. Operate in an environment with even lighting; avoid backlighting or shadows on your face.

  3. Position your face inside the frame, and follow the prompts to complete the actions blink, turn your head left and right, open your mouth in sequence. Hold each action for at least 1.5 seconds.

  4. If the first attempt fails, the system allows up to 2 retries within 30 minutes. If the time window expires, you will need to restart the verification process.

  5. Check app permissions: iOS requires camera permission; Android requires camera, storage, and body sensor permissions.

When is it done? Face verification is passed and the page prompts you to proceed to the next step.

Face verification is a critical step to confirm the legitimate owner of the account and to prevent identity theft.

Step 5: Submit for review and wait for the result

What to do: After submitting the verification application, wait for the OKX review team to process it.

How to do it:

  • Regular reviews are usually completed within minutes to a few hours; during peak periods, it may extend to 1-3 business days.

  • The review result will be sent via in-app notification, site message, or your registered email.

  • If the review is rejected, the system will note the reason for rejection (e.g., "unclear photo", "information mismatch"). Correct the issues as indicated and resubmit.

When is it done? You receive a notification that the review is approved, the identity verification page shows "Verified", and your account permissions are unlocked.

Common Reasons for Failure

  • Unclear document photos: blurry, glare, incomplete edges, or use of a re-shot image/screenshot.

  • Information mismatch with the document: spelling of name, document number differs from the original document.

  • Face verification failed: wearing obstructions, insufficient lighting, actions not completed as required.

  • App permissions not granted: camera or other necessary permissions not enabled on iOS/Android.

Risk Warning

  • Thai SEC enforcement risk: In March 2025, the Thai SEC filed a lawsuit against OKX, accusing it of conducting digital asset business in Thailand without obtaining the required license, in violation of the Digital Asset Business Act B.E. 2561. If the charges are upheld, OKX may face fines, trading restrictions, or a complete ban on operations in Thailand.

  • Potential criminal prosecution: The Thai SEC has referred the case to the Economic Crime Suppression Division. The operating entity of OKX and associated promoters may face imprisonment of 2 to 5 years and a daily fine of up to 10,000 baht.

  • Account risk: If Thai regulators ultimately prohibit OKX operations, your account and funds may be restricted. It is strongly recommended to closely monitor announcements from the Thai SEC and official notices from OKX.

Open the OKX app, select "Thailand" as your country of residence, and follow the on-screen prompts to complete your personal information, upload your documents, and perform face verification. Because the Thai SEC's enforcement action against OKX is ongoing, please stay attentive to official policy updates after completing verification and assess the compliance risk of continued use.
