When OKX KYC needs to access your camera and you see "can't access" or "camera not enabled", it's usually not an app malfunction. It's because the camera permission is not configured correctly in your phone's system or browser. The permission setting is not inside the OKX app, but in your phone's "Settings".
Step 1: Check if you're on the app or a web browser
- Case A: Mobile app can't access the camera
The app needs system-level permission to use the camera. If you tapped "Deny" when the app asked for camera permission, it won't ask again. You must manually enable it in the system settings.
- Case B: Mobile browser or desktop browser can't access the camera
When visiting OKX via a browser, the camera permission is controlled by the browser itself, not by the OKX website settings.
Step 2: Manually enable camera permission
- What you need to do: Go to the system settings of your phone or computer, and find the permission management page for the OKX app or your browser.
- Step-by-step instructions
- Android phone: Open 【Settings】→【Apps】 or 【Application Management】→ Find "OKX" app →【Permissions】→ Make sure the 【Camera】 permission is turned on (set to "Allow" or "Allow only while using the app"). If you're using the web version via a browser, find the browser app's permission settings and enable camera permission there.
- iPhone: Open 【Settings】→ Scroll down and find "OKX" app → Ensure the 【Camera】 switch is green (on).
- Desktop browser (Chrome/Edge etc.): Click the lock icon or camera icon on the left side of the browser's address bar. In the site permissions settings, change the "Camera" permission to "Allow".
- Verify: In the system settings, confirm that the camera permission for OKX or your browser is set to "Allow".
Important note
If you previously denied camera permission and checked "Don't ask again", you can only change it in the system settings – there is no toggle inside the app. Also, on Android phones, if USB debugging is enabled in Developer options, it may interfere with the camera in some cases. Try turning it off and then try again.
Common reasons for failure
Many people look for a camera toggle inside the app and can't find it, thinking it's an app issue, so they uninstall and reinstall repeatedly. But camera permission is controlled at the system level; the app cannot turn on your phone's camera by itself – you must go to your phone's settings. Also, if the app version is too old, there may be compatibility issues. Update to the latest version and try again.
How to check if it's working
After enabling the permission, reopen the OKX app or refresh the webpage, go back to the identity verification page, and tap "Start verification" or "Face recognition". If the camera turns on and shows a live view, the problem is solved. If it still can't access the camera, try restarting your phone or computer and try once more.
Next step
Once the camera is working, continue with the KYC face recognition or video verification. During face recognition, make sure lighting is even and your face is not obscured. Follow the prompts to blink, nod, or open your mouth as required. If you need to complete a C2C video verification in the app, remember to enable the microphone permission as well and do not connect headphones.
