Don't worry. Your funds are not lost; they are just in the wrong place. On OKX, assets in the funding account cannot be traded directly. You must first transfer them to your trading account. This is an internal transfer, is free of charge, and usually arrives in real time. Here is exactly how to move it over.

Core Difference: Funding Account ≠ Trading Account

After you buy or deposit digital assets on OKX, the money goes into your funding account by default. The funding account is mainly used for holding, depositing, and withdrawing assets.

Spot trading and futures trading require assets in your trading account. If funds are still in the funding account, your order will show 0 balance or an insufficient margin warning.

A transfer moves assets from your funding account to your trading account. It is a necessary step before you start trading.

Case A: Mobile App

To transfer assets from your funding account to your trading account in the mobile app:

  1. Open the OKX app and tap Assets in the bottom navigation bar.

  2. On the Assets page, find and tap Transfer or Fund Transfer.

  3. On the transfer page, set From to Funding Account and To to Trading Account.

  4. Choose the coin you want to transfer, such as USDT, and enter the amount. You can also tap All.

  5. Check the details and tap Confirm.

Success check: The page shows a transfer success message. Then go back to Assets > Trading Account and you should see the coin and amount you just transferred.

Case B: Web Version

To transfer assets from your funding account to your trading account on the website:

  1. Log in to the OKX website and click Asset Management in the top right corner.

  2. In the dropdown menu, select Fund Transfer.

  3. Select the transfer scope. Usually Funding and Trading Accounts is fine.

  4. Choose From: Funding Account; To: Trading Account. Then choose the coin and enter the amount.

  5. Click Confirm.

Success check: The page shows a success message and your trading account balance updates.

Common Reasons Why Transfers Fail

Reason 1: Wrong direction You chose trading-to-funding instead of funding-to-trading. If the direction is reversed, your balance will still show 0. Just repeat the transfer in the correct direction.

Reason 2: Assets are frozen or occupied

  • Open positions in the trading account: Margin used by open positions cannot be transferred out. Close the position first.

  • Assets in Earn products: Assets subscribed to Earn products must be redeemed before they can be transferred.

  • Unpaid leverage debt: If your margin trading account has debt, transfers are not possible until you repay it.

Reason 3: Contract settlement is in progress When certain contracts trigger real-time settlement on the platform, the transfer function may be temporarily unavailable. Wait a few minutes and try again.

Note: Transfers are internal asset movements within OKX. They have no fees and arrive in real time. If you plan to trade futures, make sure your funds are in the trading account, or you will see an insufficient margin warning when placing an order. In addition, on the deposit page you can set a default receiving account. If you select Trading Account, newly deposited coins will skip the funding account and enter the trading account automatically.

How to Verify the Transfer Was Successful

After a successful transfer, go to the spot trading screen and place a small limit order. If your available balance shows the coin you just transferred, it worked. If the system still says insufficient balance, go back to the Assets page and check whether the transfer direction was reversed.
