Where Does Your Deposit Go After Funding OKX? How to Transfer to Your Trading Account

Funds deposited to OKX land in your Funding Account by default. To trade, you must first move them to your Trading Account.

The Funding Account handles "storage" — depositing, withdrawing, and holding assets. The Trading Account handles "spending" — spot, futures, margin, and other trading operations. If your funds are in the wrong account, you'll see an "insufficient margin" error when placing an order.

Before You Start: Verify Which Account Holds Your Deposit

Open the OKX Assets page and review your asset overview. Find the coin you just deposited and check under which account label it appears.

  • If it appears under Funding Account → Normal. Deposits default to this account.

  • If it appears under Trading Account → You can trade immediately; no transfer needed.

⚠️ On the OKX deposit page, there is a "Deposit to" option where you can choose either the Funding Account or the Trading Account. If you selected "Trading Account" at the time of deposit, the funds land directly in your Trading Account and require no transfer. However, most users overlook this option and the default is the Funding Account.

Step 1: Find the "Transfer" Entry

Goal: Navigate to the transfer page so you can move funds from your Funding Account to your Trading Account.

How:

  • App: Bottom navigation bar → Assets → Tap Transfer (some versions may show "Fund Transfer")

  • Web: Top menu → Asset ManagementFund Transfer

Completion check: You see the transfer page with "From" and "To" dropdown menus.

Step 2: Set Transfer Direction and Coin

Goal: Select "From Funding Account" → "To Trading Account," then enter the amount and coin.

How:

  1. "From" field: Select Funding Account.

  2. "To" field: Select Trading Account. (If you plan to trade spot, you may also see a "Spot Account" option; use the label shown in your app.)

  3. Choose coin: Select the coin you just deposited.

  4. Enter amount: Input the quantity to transfer, or tap "All" to move the entire balance.

Completion check: The coin, amount, and direction are all correct on the confirmation screen.

Step 3: Confirm the Transfer

Goal: Submit the transfer request.

How:

  • After verifying the details, tap Confirm or Next.

  • Complete the security verification (trading password / verification code, etc.).

  • Transfers are internal operations, incur no fees, and are processed instantly.

Completion check: The page shows "Transfer successful."

Common Reasons for Failed Transfers

  1. Wrong account selected in the "From" field — Choosing "Trading Account" or a "Sub-account" instead of "Funding Account" triggers an "insufficient balance" error.

  2. Existing open positions in the Trading Account — If you hold positions and margin is locked, you'll be warned "cannot transfer out while positions are open." Close positions or free up margin first.

  3. Active Earn subscriptions — Funds locked in Earn products must be redeemed before they can be transferred.

  4. Verification limits or network deposit limits — Large sums may be restricted; complete higher-level verification or wait for limits to reset.

  5. Assets in the Web3 Wallet are not in the Funding Account — If you topped up the OKX Web3 Wallet, you must select "From Web3 Wallet" rather than "From Funding Account."

Risk Reminders

  • Internal transfers are not on-chain transactions and require no gas fees. If someone asks you to send an on-chain "gas fee" to process a transfer, it's a scam.

  • If you use multiple account modes (simple mode / single-currency cross margin / multi-currency cross margin), the rules for using funds in the Trading Account differ. Before transferring, confirm that your trading mode supports the type of trade you intend to make.

How to Confirm the Transfer Is Done

After a successful transfer, go to the OKX Assets page and look at the coin you just moved — the Funding Account balance has decreased, and the Trading Account balance has increased by the same amount. That confirms the transfer.

Then go to the Trade page, select the trading pair (spot or futures), and check that the available balance shown in the order panel is updated. If you can place an order normally, you're all set.
