No need to send emails and wait for replies anymore if you want a copy of your personal data from Binance. At the end of 2024, Binance launched the Privacy Center. After logging in, you can directly download an encrypted personal data file on the App or website, covering basic profile, deposit/withdrawal, and trading records. But "deleting data" is a different matter: Binance does not offer a self-service option to delete only certain parts of your data. The only self-service action available is closing your account. And closing your account does not mean your data disappears immediately. Anti-money laundering and other legal obligations require Binance to keep some data for a period of time.

First, Clarify Whether You Want a "Copy" or "Deletion"
These two requests are handled completely differently by Binance. Do not mix them into one action.
To get a data copy: Use the Privacy Center self-service download. You can get the encrypted file within minutes. This is currently the fastest and most direct method.
To delete data: Binance does not offer a self-service option to "delete only certain data items and keep the account active." If you want Binance to stop retaining your account information, the practical action is closing your account. However, even after closure, Binance will still retain some data according to anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, and other legal requirements until the statutory retention period ends. If you only want to exercise your right to deletion without closing the account, you need to submit a request through the Data Protection Officer (DPO) channel. They will assess whether your request falls within the deletable scope.
Downloading a Copy of Your Personal Data: Privacy Center Self-Service
This feature has an App version requirement: you need version 2.91.0 or higher. The website also supports this operation, with a slightly different entry path.
App: After logging in, go to account settings, find Privacy Center, and tap Download Personal Data. The system will ask you to enter your email address and create an 8-digit numeric password. This password is used to encrypt the downloaded file. You must remember it, otherwise the file cannot be opened. After submission, Binance will send a confirmation email with a download link to your email. Click the link and enter the password to download the encrypted file.
Website: The path is Settings > Privacy Center > Download Personal Data. The subsequent steps are the same as on the App.
There is one hard limit: you can only self-download once every 7 days. If you need to download again within 7 days, you must request assistance through the DPO web form or email.
The downloaded file contains your basic profile information, deposit records, withdrawal records, and trading history. If you also need a copy of your KYC documents, the self-service download does not include this. You need to contact the DPO team separately.
Closing Your Account: The Practical Path for Data Deletion, But With a Cost
The entry point for closing your account is in the App: Account Center > Security > Manage Account > Close Account. There is also a corresponding entry on the website. The process includes selecting a reason for closure, reading and accepting the terms, and completing security verification.
You must confirm one thing before closing: do not leave any assets in the account. Closure is irreversible. Once the account is closed, you cannot access it anymore. Remaining assets will be lost and cannot be recovered. If you still have holdings or a balance, the page will prompt you to transfer them out first.
After successful closure, your account access is terminated. However, Binance clearly states that some personal data will continue to be retained according to legal requirements. The specific retention period depends on applicable regulations such as anti-money laundering laws. Data will only be deleted after the retention period expires. This means there is a statutory retention period between "closing your account" and "data disappearing immediately." During this period, you cannot ask Binance to delete the data early.
When to Use the DPO Channel
The following situations cannot be handled by self-service functions and require contacting Binance's Data Protection Officer (DPO):
- You need to download a data copy again within 7 days
- You need a copy of your KYC documents
- You do not want to close your account but wish to exercise your right to deletion or make other privacy-related requests
The DPO email provided in Binance's official blog is
Completion Criteria
Data copy: You have received Binance's confirmation email, clicked the link, successfully opened the encrypted file with the 8-digit password you set, and can see your trading records or deposit/withdrawal history in the file. Merely submitting the application does not count as complete.
Account closure: The account can no longer be logged into, and you have transferred all assets out before closure. If you receive a confirmation email or page prompt from Binance after closure, it is considered complete. But do not expect data to disappear immediately — data retention during the statutory period is normal, not a sign of failure.
If you just want to "see what data Binance has stored about me," use the Privacy Center to download it. No need to consider closing your account. If you truly wish to end your relationship with Binance and request data deletion, closing your account is the currently available self-service path. The cost is that the account cannot be recovered, and some data will still be legally retained for a period of time.
